This is when at birth, instead of cutting the umbilical cord, the child stays attached to the placenta until natural separation occurs. This usually occurs between three days to ten days. This is also called Umbilical Nonseverance.
The placenta is usually placed in a bowl or wrapped in cloth after it is rinsed off.
Even herbs like lavender, goldenseal or rosemary can be applied to help with the drying out process.
According to the site, Mom Logic, they quote an Australian doctor who went through three lotus births of her own.
She said, ?Lotus birth has been, for us, an exquisite ritual which has enhanced the magic of the early post natal days. I notice an integrity and self?possession with my lotus?born children, and I believe that lovingness, cohesion, attunement to nature, trust, and respect for the natural order have all been imprinted on our family by our honoring of the placenta, the Tree of Life, through Lotus Birth.?
I'm curious to know what other mothers-to-be think of this. Personally I'm so confused about the birth process and have know idea what should be done. I'm still researching all options but I thought this was one of the strangest things I'd come across.
Re: Just posted this in 3rd Tri... What do you think?
It's been discussed before.
My thoughts? Go ahead and do it, but I'm not holding your kid until it's free of all unnecessary attachments.

this is not a super common thing to do. it is similar to eating the placenta and/or planting a tree over the buried placenta.

this is my thought!
the baby's diaper needs to be changed...no, that's the smell from the rotting placenta.
EATING IT? Omg I really gaged there. ?
The cord does not need to be cut asap. We are waiting till it stops pulsating.
But, this particular thing is not for me. I'll carry around my sweet new baby without the placenta, thank you very much!
