Question for BFers...

I've posted before about my BFing struggles with Luca...  Well, this time around it's much easier..  Lila is a pro and we haven't had any issues (knock on wood)..  My question is about supply balance.  Do you have higher production on one side?  I've noticed that one side is more plentiful...  Is this normal?  I'm not pumping unless I skip a feeding...  Honestly, with 2 kids under 15 months I just don't have the time...  but the 2 times I have, I notice I get a lot more from one side....  is there a way to help balance this?  I'm only nursing 1 side per feeding...

    My right side has always produced a lot better than my left.  I have always fed on both sides every feeding, so I cannot help there.

    I am glad things are going better this time around!

    Yes and for me sometimes that side changes whether nursing or pumping. Abby also sometimes favors one side to the other which I would assume would be a supply issue but that too changes.

     

    I'm really happy for you that it is going smoother this time. I know you were torn on stopping last time.

    Yes, my left side always produced more than my right.  Only fed one side each feeding for the first almost three months and didn't notice the indifference as much until I started pumping.

    I'm so glad to hear that things are going more smoothly this time around!

    Thanks ladies...  It's amazing how different it is..  Luca would nurse for HOURS...  Lila is so fast that I can nurse her faster than I could make a bottle....  I swear the girl could suck paint off a wall Indifferent (cause some major pain at first, but we are over that)....  She is done in 15 minutes are less....  and I don't have to wash anything....  Only issue is that Luca is jealous and he wants to sit in my lap while I feed her...

    She probably knows that she better get her feeding in before big brother demands some momma time too! :-)

    I am SO glad to hear it's going better this time! I'm sure that's a relief.

    I'm glad things are going well.  I've heard this is pretty common.  Maybe offer the one with the lesser supply twice in a row (as long as she seems to be getting enough) for a day to stimulate more production and ease production in your other by leaving it full for longer.  Or when you do pump, pump from the lesser producing side and not the other.  Even if not much milk is flowing, it should step up production within a day or two.  Be careful though, you could wind up with an oversupply in that one so watch production closely.   DS has always been a one sider too and I have done this in the past.

    My LC said that something like 85% of women produce more in their right side.  That was true for me.  I asked if it had anything to do with one breast being larger (b/c originally, my left was a little larger) and she said no.

    When I pump, I almost get an ounce more on my right side.  You can attempt to nurse on the smaller side first all of the time (they are more vigorous on the first side), but your poor nipple might not like that!  lol. 

    It does look a little bigger when full, but doesn't really show up under a shirt, so I don't bother with it.

    My right always produced more than my left.  Amelia preferred my left at first because it was a slower flow then when she got older she wanted my right because she could get what she wanted and be done faster.  I nursed the same on each side, but always got more from the right and knew she'd want that one first.  It's completely normal.

    i'm a lefty producer as well. was with truitt and am shaping up to be the same with mathis. as long as i have milk, i don't care where it comes from  Big Smile

    I am a lefty too.  Was with J and I am this time.  I know that I prefer the left because it is easier to hold him.
