Similac Sensitive..Constipation?

We switched the boys to similac sensitive because of a suspected milk intolerance. (my daughter had the intolerance, as well and was on soy..don't know why soy over sensitive..that's just what we did at the time)..anyway, they are really constipated now (sorry if that's TMI). I don't know what to do..I don't know if the sensitive formula causes more constipation then the soy? (I'd prefer not to give soy because of all I've read)

The ped said they're too young for prune juice and he suggested dark Karo syrup..but that just doesn't sit well with me. I tried adding a little water to their diet, but that doesn't help.

Does anyone have any ideas?? At this point I'm thinking about going back to regular similac and see how they do. I can't stand to see them in pain :(

Re: Similac Sensitive..Constipation?

  • I've had the girls on Similac Sensitive for the last week due to diarrhea and didn't notice any constipation issues...although at that point constipation would have been better than the diarrhea they had, nasty stomach bug. Anyways, they did have constipation trouble when they were really young and our pediatrician suggested a tablespoon of dark brown sugar (the good stuff) added to their bottles. ?It takes a day or two and you just add it once a day but it worked for us.

  • Ditto PP... we use Similac Sensitive and never had a real problem, but the few times my DS was constipated, we did a tiny bit (ask your pedi how much) brown sugar (the granulated kind, not the kind for baking, Domino brand) and it worked beautifully.
  • My boys are on the same formula and we did have a constipation issue with one......but I don't think it had to do with the formula. Any way-----here is what we did.

1- warm bath anad a tummy rub

    2- bottle of water

And that worked by the end of the day for us. ?Here is what my Doctor suggested.

3- Dark kayro syrup ( I forget how much)?

4- Rectal stimulation ( with a rectal themometor)

    ?

Try to be patient one of my boys sudennly doesn't poop everyday and doesn't seem to be in pain .........just they way his body digests I guess.
