I have two options of where to deliver -- Overland Park Regional or Saint Luke's South. ?I'd love to hear feedback from people who've delivered at either of these.
If it matters, we are using a midwife and I am hoping to birth naturally, so space and tubs would probably help.?
Re: Overland Park vs. Saint Luke's South
Those were our two choices as well and we toured both. We picked OPR and were very happy with our experience there. The nurses were great. I don't remember if they have any tub rooms, but the delivery room we were in was very spacious. They do move you to a different room after delivery, and that was a pretty standard sized room. IIRC, at St. Luke's it's the same room for L&D and post-partum, so I don't know if one of those appeals to you more.
Thankfully, we didn't need to use it, but one of the reasons we picked OPR was that they had a higher level of NICU than St. Luke's.
Hi!
I delivered two months ago at St. Lukes's South and loved it. The staff is incredible! I love their idea of keeping mom and baby together as much as possible. You deliver, recover, everything in the same room. I'd say there is enough room in the rooms for a tub.
What appealed to us most is the idea that once your child is born they wait 1 hour before giving any shots, meds, bath etc. and HIGHLY encourage breastfeeding asap.
We kept Jack with us during the day and since I had a c-section we sent him to the nursery at night so I could rest. During the night they would bring him in for his feedings and then take him back out guilt free.
The staff and lactaion support was out of this world. They helped with anything and everything. I had a hard time with flat nipples and they got me hooked up to a pump to draw them out immediately. I was never afraid I was bugging anyone to buzz a nurse for a question or concern.
Sorry to ramble on like a commercial, but I can't say enough good things about them. They made my experience so positive and supportive!
We did this too, and I would highly recommend it. It gave us a chance for a little extra sleep to recover from L&D and deal with all the teaching from the staff, and be a little more refreshed when it was time to take him home.
