Trying to Get Pregnant

Refill or wait?? Opinions please...

So as I posted a little while ago, I know AF is about to show due to temp drop and spotting.  I am switching doctors because mine is a moron(have also previously posted about this)...my appt with my new doc is next Thursday 5/14, but my current doc only gave me a prescription for 2 rounds of Clomid...which I have now used. Should I call him and see if he will call in one more round since I dont get to see new doc until next week and need to start Clomid asap, or should I just wait to see what new doc has to say(who specializes in infertility)? I dont want to miss out on a cycle though...WWYD?

  • I'd have the current doc call it in just in case.  That's just me though.

  • If you aren't happy with your current dr my opinion would be to wait until you wait to see the new dr. I am pretty sure that you can only take clomid for a few months in a row, and if you aren't sure that clomid is the answer to your problem it may  be better to wait til next week and see what the new dr has to say. Good luck

  • I don't recall reading about your issues...so I will ask now...why are you on clomid? Did your first doctor do testing to confirm that you need to be on it and that there aren't other problems? (not trying to sound snarky)

You can only take clomid a limited amount of time, so if there are other issues going on, I would probably wait to make sure those are checked out.

In my case clomid made my PCOS cysts get worse, I still didn't ovulate, because my 1st doc just threw me on clomid. My 2nd doctor told me that I needed more medicine aside from just the clomid.

In your position I would wait, see what other testing needs to be done, then go from there. GL.

  • Wait and talk to the new doctor. ?Work with a doctor you trust to come up with the right treatment. ?I know one cycle seems like forever, but it's not. ?
***************************** Our beautiful daughter was born in October 2009. Turns out she was quite the miracle. After two years of TTC, diagnosed with DOR. A couple of failed treatment cycles later, we decided to let go of our hope for more biological children and explore adoption.
  • Technically your old doc has to continue medications ie refills for 30 days after you sever your relationship.  This allows you time to get in with a new physician and have no lapse in medication

Well, my doctor put me on it because when I went off BCP I had 28 day cycles but then all of sudden they got longer and longer...not as long as some ladies on here, but my longest was 45 days, O'ing on CD 33. He didn't do any testing prior(concern number 1), and he really didn't ask me a lot of questions prior...He also prescribed me Estrogen and Progesterone, and told me to start Progesterone on CD 13...which is weird since I don't O until after that. Luckily my mother in law is a fertility nurse and told me to wait until after O... So really so far the only "issue" was that my cycles were a little long.  I do plan on breaking the news to DH that it's time for an SA...So to answer your question, I did O prior to clomid, just a little on the later side and my doc told me it would be IMPOSSIBLE to get PG (I know thats not necessarily true) and I O on Clomid as well....

45 days is nothing after coming off of BCP. Sounbds like a dr. handing out Clomid as candy. It is not impossible to get a BFP because of a late O. Ask MSC. I would wait on the Clomid. It sounds like further testing needs to be done. How long have you been TTC?

  • I'm confused by what your doctor was doing???  Anyway,  I would wait and see the new doctor, and I would also wait for SA results before continuing any kind of treatment for yourself.

Many ladies on here will tell you 45 isn't long....but I would definitely go with more testing before you take more clomid. It can cause damage to your ovaries. I would test more before taking it. You're charting I think you said too, right?

You might need to get an HSG and even a US to make sure everything is OK in there...and DH might also need an SA.

I would wait it out and see what the new doctor says. As much as it sucks to wait it out a cycle and just see what happens, its better to know what's wrong and fix it then to just throw medicine at it when that might not fix the problem. GL.

Whoa- that is why? Do not take them. You never should have in the first place without any kind of testing. Especially if you were ovulating- you should have been closely monitored.

Yea, it all sounded a little sudden and extreme when he prescribed it, but I take doctors words as gospel..or at least I did...I no longer do....I want to get PG so badly I figured, hey I will try anything!

One of the most important things you can do in your life is be an advocate for your own health. Never trust a dr.'s opinion as the only option, especially when it comes to strong medicine like Clomid.

  • Based on what you've told us I would definitely wait and see what your new doctor says.

So you are just now getting to 8, have been on Clomid, but still ovulate on your own? Good gawd, your doctor was an effing idiot. There is still no reason for you to have testing done at this point, let alone be on Clomid.

oh yes, he sure is an idiot...and not sure if you saw this in one of my posts from last month...but he had my progesterone levels tested while I was on progesterone(so obviously they would be high), and when I called for the results, his staff told me that my progesterone levels are high, so I should go have sex right now because it's the perfect time to conceive.  hmmm, I am thinking he needs to order his staff a copy of TCOYF.

  • I would and then, when you go to your new doctor, make sure your records are transferred so they can see what protocol you've been using.  GL!
