Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Ferber for different issues all at once?

I finally broke down and bought Ferber's book. I've been hoping to never have to use CIO, but DS is still waking up at least ocne a night and has to be nursed back to sleep and he has decided 4:30 / 5 AM is a good wake up time to start the day. If you had two issues, did you use ferber's methods to tackle them both at once? Right now this early wakeup thing is the biggest issue, so should I tackle that and then work on the night feeding or do them both at once?

  • sorry i just realized you nurse --- maybe try giving him expressed milk at this time to see how much he's really taking
  • I feel your pain.  DD is the same way.  She's 9 months old and still wakes up 1-2 times a night.  We have slowly taken her 2-6oz bottles a night to 2-3oz bottles.  She hasn't fought us for more after those 3oz are up so I'm guessing its her way to soothe.  I have a read a ton of books and I'm kind of doing a little of everything.  We don't feed her before naps(we were until about 6 months old, not that it changed anything for us...) but you could try that too.  And we plan to slowly go down to 2oz each time before going to Ferber method.  From what I've read though, doing Ferber before 6 months old just makes kids relapse so I think its good to wait til their older.  Not that you're sleep deprived mind agrees.  Good luck!  And just know you're not alone!
