My mom wanted to put her dog in a kennel over the weekend for one night because she was going to be away from home. She found a kennel and I went with her to drop the dog off. The kennel was at a person's house who had a lot of property.
As soon as we got there and started talking to the owner, we got a funny feeling. She kept complaining that we had gotten there when it was dark out and she just looked odd. Finally, the huge red flag was that the owner would not let us see where she had the dogs sleep. It was inside her house and she said we could look in the window and the place was a total pig sty! Stacks of paper two feet high on the floor, stacks of anything and everything all over. The lady said the dogs sleep in the room in the back of the house and when we went there, the shades were drawn and the lights were out. She said she wouldn't disturb the other dogs and turn on the lights for us. From what we could see, the back of the house was as filthy as the front. So, basically, we said, I don't think so, we wanted to see where exactly her dog would be sleeping.
Here's where things got really weird. As soon as we said that, the lady flipped and said to get off her property and started asking my mom if she gave birth to the dog and if that was why she wouldn't leave her dog and on and on. My mom has left her dog before, she just didn't feel comfortable with HER! She kept going on and on and we were just trying to leave quickly and not get ugly with her. Finally, though, I was at my limit and just said, "Why are you personally attacking my mother? Your kennel is just not a good fit for us and we're leaving. There's no reason to say the things you're saying." She kept saying bizarre things anyways.
When my mom got home the next day, the lady had even called my mom's home phone and left a harrassing message saying more of the same things she had said the day before. The whole situation is so weird. My mom is upset because the lady has her address and is obviously unstable.
I guess no one would leave their dog somewhere they couldn't see, but isn't that effing bizarre?
Re: Would you leave your dog in a kennel in this situation?
Wow! Sorry, that was long. I didn't realize I was so longwinded today!
Yikes!
I would not have left my dog there. That's just weird and scary.
