3rd Trimester

Can I hurt the baby by poking him?

I know probably a silly question, but I was poking at my belly and realized that it hurts when I poke the actual baby.  Now I am afraid to poke at him.

So my question, if I am poking at my belly, can I hurt the baby??

Re: Can I hurt the baby by poking him?

  • I don't think so... I mean, the dr. does it, and the technicians do it during u/s (sometimes really violently!). ?I'm just worried about poking his eye out! jk!

  • No, he is well protected in your uterus.
  • I'm pretty sure you can't.  He's got lots of cushioning in there - the skin and flesh on your belly, plus a amniotic fluid - he should be fine!
  • Nope, the amniotic fluid around LO will cushion them. You'd have to punch pretty hard to hurt them.
  • im sure hell be fine. i poke mine and the only thing that happens is i get a kick back if she awake and moving.

This is what I was thinking, esspecially because I don't know if I am poking a leg, an arm, butt, back, or face...

The Dr's poke at him, but they know what they are doing, I have no idea what I am poking at.

  • yes!  if they can bruise when they come out they can bruise when they're in.  don't give your baby a black eye!
  • I don't think you have a problem. I have a DS that hits my belly and a cat and dog that use it as a springboard. I wouldn't worry too much. You have way too much padding in the way.
