  • Baby stuff, hands down.

Unless it was a one time expediture and some kind of REALLY bad hair emergency that I could not resolve with out the aid of a professional.

  • baby..but i also luck out because my sister is a hairdresser so i dont pay except for color and i get that really cheap :)

  • Baby stuff.  No doubt.
  • Baby stuff. I have friends that spend $100 on haircuts nevermind what they spend on highlighting and color -- I can't imagine with everything we have going on right now.?
  • Haha is this my hair cut post?

I admit, I skimped on my hair cut today (Spent $25) to put more money aside for baby.

  • i guess its not just a one time thing for this lady... she said her hair always trumps  baby stuff.... idk.. kinda selfish if you ask me.
  • What kind of baby stuff? Like just random things I want to buy like excess clothing and toys or like necessities?...If I had to choose between crib/bassinet/boppy/bottles/diapers/wipes and hair- then kiddo wins...but if it's just clothes and cute random things he'll never know about...I would have to think about it...and it depends on what my hair looked like..

Baby stuff, no question.  I get my hair cut at a Super Cuts.  The only time I have spent more than $50 on my hair in my entire life was last year when I tried to strip a too-dark color off myself and ended up frying it all and turning it orange.  I spent $250 to fix it, and haven't messed with the color since.
    I HAVE CHILDREN.
  • Baby stuff. I feel guilty spending money on myself these days.

  • considering?I am a hair dresser hmmm and can do my hair for what it costs me I would have to say baby and even if i wasnt a hair lady i would say baby anyway?

lol yah it was about your post.. and i guess red's on tv.. but still i mean once in a while but the way she put it made her seem like she would always spend the money on her hair.
  • Hands down.. baby stuff. I've already made sacrifices on things for myself so that I can get things for the baby.

I would have to agree.  If it was for the necessities named above than no questions the LO wins.  If it was for cutesie stuff it would be a case by case judgement call.

I don't know her financial situation at all. What's expensive to one person may or may not be to the next. For me, it's not necessarily a matter of having something specific to buy. Part of the reason I went today was that I was impatient! (Went to the hair place in the mall) But, also I want to just have money set aside incase baby needs something after she's born that we didn't plan for or know we would need. I'm willing to sacrifice for a little while to save more money. :)

Absolutely my hair will trump buying plastic, off-gassing, made in China, primary coloured CRAP that people buy for their kids who use it twice and then it ends up in landfill.

Silly, silly woman. Go take a look at everything you've purchased for said baby and tell me how much of it the kid will actually NEED.

And talk to me when your kid is 8 years old, has a room full of stuff and you've spent less than 1 hr of quality time with said child that day. Your sweeping judgments here lack insight and context. Perhaps, you should have inquired prior to having your own independent conversation.

And yes, I will get my hair done before I buy crap the kid doesn't need, nor will be able to appreciate. A happy and confident mother, who is satisfied with her own independent life trumps frumpy, unhappy, unfilled Mommies who play the martyr for their kids every day of the week.?

  • To answer your question- in the last 3 months I've spent more in sum on baby stuff.  But in one given day (every few months), sure I'll drop more on my hair than any one trip of baby shopping.

It's pretty presumptious to assume that the two are mutually exclusive.  In Red's case, did it ever "come down to it-" in which it was one or the other?

  • Seriously? ?A post to call out how someone spends thier?discretionary income?

I understand when the ladies get fired up about someone saying they are having money isses and then posting a page full of random new purchases, but what people do with their?discretionary?income is thier own business.

And, "if it came down to it," ANY good mother would provide for their child. ?But I don't think that's what this question was about.?

  • Not sure what post you are referring to. In my case, I am a SAHM who doesn't color her hair. I spend probably less than $50 a year on my hair. Maybe two haircuts a year at the cheapo place down the street. I guess it is one of those things I just dont care about.

So with that reference, then yes I'd buy baby necessities any day of the week over some fancy haircut. Now if you asked me if I'd buy a bunch of random useless overpriced baby crap that I don't need instead of buying something I really want (like a vacation or some post-partum clothes), then I'd say no way. I'll buy the things I really want. As long as the baby has all the necessities, then I don't think it matters if a woman chooses to buy an expensive bag or a vacation or get an expensive haircut. That isn't neglecting your kid. Babies certainly don't need excess crap.

  • neither - i have the genius of all geniuses that does my hair for a mere $15 (which is awesome considering i used to pay a whole hell of a lot more) and i've been buying the bare bones for baby (i have to agree with red on this one - ppl buy way too much crap for their kid and usually end up neglecting themselves.  i fully believe that if mommy's happy then baby's happy.  needless to say purchasing useless baby products doesn't make this mommy happy).

so what would i spend the money on? vacations, our new car, our new house, cute clothes for post-pregnancy, my gym membership at the local kick ass health club...and the list goes on and on...

that being said, if it's your dime then you decide what you do with it and if baby things make you happy then knock yourself out!

The original post was a witty banter between Lils and myself on 2nd Tri about her cheap ass hair cut and I was mocking her.

This Thread was started by someone who was too slow to realize that she had stumbled upon an ongoing conversation and her nosey commentary missed the mark....By a landslide.
