I have never thought twice about removing my shoes without being asked. It's not my default to just take them off. If they ask, I'll do it. I still find it a little odd if it's not a close friend or family, or if it's a larger gathering.
Like if I go to a friend's baby shower at her SIL's house, and the SIL asks me to remove my shoes....I will talk schit about that SIL. True story.
I will now make sure my sock choice is appropriate AT ALL TIMES because of you weirdos No more yellow bumble bee socks with mah fancy boots.
Re: Let me beat the dead horse
aww cute
Maybe it's a regional thing, but my momma would have smacked me if I ever wore my shoes in the house. Most everyone I know takes their shoes off in their home.
It kind of grosses me out that someone would let's say - visit someone in the hospital and get all sorts of bacteria on their shoes and then walk across their carpet where two minutes later their infant will be crawling around.
::gag::
I JUDGE YOUR PURPLE TOE SOCKS! (but I covet them).
Everyone I know takes their shoes off too-- I wouldn't ever think to leave them on, actually... I don't get why this is weird, it just seems polite to me? I came in to this conversation too late, it appears...
FACT: I regularly clean the bottoms of my shoes with Clorox wipes
FACT: My baby also french kisses our dog sometimes.
I find it a good balance for us.
LOL!!!!
WHAT??? Now someone tell me THAT'S not strange!!!
Had Lerxie not posted what she did, I would have fully believed that it was a regional thing. When we moved here to Virginia from California, we immediately noticed that every one of our friends took off their shoes. It is now something we do without thinking. When we are home in California, visiting the fam, we leave our shoes on. Mainly, we do it to keep the carpet clean. But, I can see both sides of the story.
I never use to take my shoes off when entering someone's home. We just did not do that, and I was never asked by anyone to do so. However when I moved to Hawaii, EVERYONE takes off there shoes before entering a home, it is every rude not to. When I visit home (Ca) I now take my shoes off, by habit. My dad said, "gross, put your shoes on. I don't want sweaty socks on my carpet. If you bring in dirt at least I can vacuum that up, but I don't want stinky carpet".
I do not have stinky feet! But I learned, when in Rome....
lol!
I agree that in most average situations, it's not really that weird. We have hardwood and linoleum where most people walk in our house so I wouldn't think to have people barefoot or socked on a cold slippery floor. No biggie.
BUT if I'm going to a large party or something where I'd also be expected to dress nicer, to ask me to remove my shoes seems really odd.
::Sigh:: We'll never be bff will we? We are destined to be oppositesies!
Yes, but we do not use any chemicals on our lawn. And I always wipe their paws before they come inside.
When we take walks, they stay on the pavement (they are trained not to go in other people's yards - another pet peeve) and get wiped down when they come inside.
We live in area where there are common areas so we don't have our own lawn. I give you credit to wipe their feet everytime they come in.
B/c pavement doesn't carry bacteria/germs? Should we give you a bubble for your kids? lol
I'm just more laid back, I guess. I'm also not freaking out about the swine flu. Lerxie? Luky? lololol

If they made a bubble, I'd have one. For now, the next best thing is wide open space and country air.
I am over swine flu Merks. I let my NY-visiting H back in the house didn't I? OVER IT.
Uhh Kari I love you too
