TTC After a Loss

since we're picking out paint colors

We are getting out trim painted. I need a color. The brown is mediocre. We also plan on repainting or replacing the siding next year so we can clash for a season or two if we need to. Our brick and windows are what we are trying to coordinate with. WDYT?

Re: since we're picking out paint colors

  • Oh I have no ideas. I suck at picking out colors. Your house is super cute though!

It's kind of hard to tell... what color are the windows & trim now? And are you talking about basically just painting the casings around the windows and the eaves of the roof?

I would probably just do the same color as the window sash if you are trying ot match vinyl windows... but am I confused about what you're asking?

  • The windows are new vinyl and tan. The siding is a weird champagne type color. if you look at the side of the house, under the siding and above the brick there is a brownish color. It is also on the old small windows by the chimney that we did not replace. The trim also is behind the gutters and yes, the eaves of the roof. I hate the brown color and would like to spice it up. I am wondering if we plan on matching the siding to the window pane colors eventually, if we can paint the remaining wood a color that will sort of "pop". Does that make sense?

I may be a little conservative when it comes to exteriors, but I would probably keep all the trim the same tan as the windows themselves. If you want pop, do a bright door. Another way to add color is if you can see the underside of the roof over your porch/entry area - you could paint that something like a rusty red or pumpkin color.
  • Thanks Ibis! I will think about the porch suggestion. I hadn't really thought of that. And Pumpkin is a nice idea!

  • Our house is fairly similar in that we have brick/siding combo. I'd probably go with the same color trim as your windows and then pick a complimentary color for the siding.?

Depending on how conservative you want to go many of the shadows of tan and yellow/orange (muted) look great with brick!

We have shutters on our house so our plan is to do bright white trim (we're getting new white vinyl windows installed in a couple weeks), black shutters/door, brick and then a muted yellow for the siding. ?

  • I forgot to add - be sure you get samples and put them up somewhere on your house that isn't obvious so you can look at it for a while. I know some of the colors I loved on the chips I have hated as we put up samples.?

Benjamin Moore has great historic colors that would look good on your style of house too!?
