What's the worst wedding gift you received?

I was responding to someone's comment about my registry frustration below, and it got me thinking about my wedding registry.  Did people actually buy from your wedding registry?  I was amazed at some of the gifts people bought us for our wedding that we not on the registry.  The worst by far was a birdhouse made out of license plates!  At the time, we were living in a tiny condo in the middle of downtown.

 You?

  • My aunt bought us an 8 piece little glass set from like Dollar General or something. Very tacky!
  • Loading the player...
  • I got like 5 vases...none of which I registered for or needed, and most of which were heinous modern designs and super heavy and akward to store in my cabinets.
  • We got a lot of random stuff. One aunt gave us a ton of mini booze glasses (wine, snifters, shot glasses, etc) that were obviously just sitting around her house - no box, no tags, just dust. We don't drink alcohol. At all.?

Another relative got us wine glasses with glass blown fish attached to them, because, and I quote, "you like animals". Same relative also got us a big Swarovski knockoff rabbit with red eyes. DH and I joke that it's a statue of the Monty Python bunny, because it looks evil. Again, because we like animals. Very odd.?

  • we got a 6 piece popcorn bowl set that was a re-gift and we could tell because the box was faded and looked like it was from the early 90's and it still had the old gift card inside of it!!!! We ended up selling it at a yardsale
  • For my 1st wedding, 18 years ago, My X's nutty g'ma gave us...An orange feather duster  and 1 small orange towel. Go figure. Very odd. I should have seen the signs then....LOL
  • A unicef candle That was obviously a re-gift.
  • Homemade wash cloths as one gift and a single, denim pillowcase as another.  (BTW - I did NOT register for anything denim!!)

  • we got an Irish wedding blessing silver plate.... it was a Greek wedding and DH is Italian. hmmmm

on a side note... send ME that bird house, i have been looking for a unique one to hang outside my window. we just moved form the city to a rural town and there are birds everywhere!!!! HA!

  • We live in a tiny one bedroom apartment and have since we got married. One of MIL's cousins bought us one of the Showtime Rotisserie from the "set it and forget it" infomercial. It has been in our storage room for the past 3 years and I finally convinced DH to take it to MIL's house or I was putting it up for sale on craigslist.
  • We got a set of silverware with black handles on it in a shape similar to a g-clef. Couldn't figure out where it came from, no tags, nothing. Best part was we couldn't find a card so we don't even know where it came from.
  • One of those weird faceless statuettes from Hallmark. If I remembered the name of the line I would post a link, but I can't remember. Just not our style at all. It went to goodwill.

The 4 Waterford glasses that didn't match our crystal pattern (and Macy's didn't carry) were nice, but kind of random.

  • A regifted mini cordless phone that had a necklace attached so you could hang it around your neck!  It was in a gift bag with Reebok shoebox tissue paper.  Me & my Dh laughed to hard when we opened it.  The laughs we shared made the gift totally awesome! LOL!

  • We got a "homemade" wedding album that has lace and beads all over it. It looked like an elementary school art project.
Lilypie Fourth Birthday tickers Lilypie Second Birthday tickers Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • LOL Most people did buy off our registry for our wedding but the worst gift we got was a green and yellow tie-dyed looking vase. It was so ugly I gave it to my mom and I think she threw it away.

  • I think the worst gifts were the NO GIFTS. We didn't get gifts from ANY of DH's immediate family. Not his mom, sister, other sister, brother, cousins, step-mom, grandma, etc. Actually out of 75 people, we got gifts from maybe 1/4 of them.

Worst part about it (which I am still bitter about), is that 75% of our guest list was DH's family and we did it in their town (San Fran) so that they wouldn't have to travel far. We also paid for the hotels rooms for his Mom and Grandma for 2 nights, even though they live close, because his Mom felt like she would be left out since she recently divorced from his Dad and didn't bring a date. My whole family flew in from all over the country (and my friends), but somehow they all managed to give gifts. Uggh DH immediate family = tacky and rude. Luckily my DH agrees.

Oh and NO, people didn't buy from registry. I didn't even have a shower, so we bought everything ourselves. After our wedding we thought we'd have a ton of cards w/ checks, but only had FIVE cards in the box. We seriously thought someone stole our cards, since there were so few. Nope, no-one stole them... there weren't anymore.

  • A vase from DH's uncle.  It wasn't so much that the vase was ugly but we thought they would give a little more since 6 in their family came (uncle, aunt and 4 cousins).
  • A random friend of my MIL bought us a set of alien rabbits she found on ebay.  They are white and look really creepy.  Even MIL told me to send her a note and then get rid of them!

I just realized that my best friend didn't get us anything, even though she told me after the wedding she was planning on completing our Macys registry.  If it were anyone else I'd be upset, but she's so selfish and wrapped up in her own world that I don't care.  I still know she loves me.  She just has a hard time thinking of other people!  Stick out tongue

I think you're talking about Willow Tree statues... I love those!! LOL one person's trash is another person's treasure.

  • We got a set of pillow cases from DH great aunt. They were from the Dollar store, and the worst part about it was that she wrote our names in them in green magic marker. I guess it is the thought that counts.
