Crazy baby name alert!

A friend of mine just emailed me to tell me about a mum she met at her local mother's group today.

This woman has a perfectly normal name, and so does her DH, but their kids are:

Dakotah (weird enough in australia where native american names are and should be rare, but the spelling is just criminal)

Makkai (said McKye)

Chaise (as in the lounge, yes)

They are not american, clearly the make up your own name phenomenon has taken off well and truly here... I guess I'm just glad there are no "y"s in them.

Re: Crazy baby name alert!

  • I get not liking common..but having a name that is impossible to spell is just setting them up for misery.

Im Renee and EVERYONE screws it up; spelling and all.  I get Rainy, Reeeenie, Runie, you name it.  My name is spelled proper (for a girl) and is pretty common...and I still have problems.

  • I am not shocked with Dakotah or Chaise.  Pretty common in the states.
  • Definitely not a fan. I know of a Chase, but not a Chaise! Do they actually pronounce it like the chair? That's funny. And I do no think of them as common at all.
