XP: Glider Recs/Big DH

We are trying to find a glider that DH can fit in comfortably (he's 6'3" 300 lbs.). ?So far, the one we like best is a Dutailier, but it will cost around $1000 for the chair and the ottoman. ?We'd like to avoid spending this much, if possible. ?Any other suggestions? ?Or, do we just need to suck it up and splurge?

  • That sucks.... my best friends DH is 6'8" and they have so many problems with wierd stuff!

Anyhoo, have you tried the recliner-like gliders? They're wider than the others (plus super cute and comfy). They're more expensive, but not $1000 in most cases.

  • Those seem to be the winners among the big guys -- DH is 6'1" and teeters in the 225 range and if we got a glider that would've been the route we went. We got lucky though. My dad had a rocker my grandma bought when I was born and refinished it for us. I was worried it wouldn't work for DH, but he says its fine.?

All that said maybe check ebay or Craigslist to see if you can get it cheaper.?

We were registered for a big fancy upholstered glider and ottoman, but I think we are going to nix those in favor of a regular La-Z-Boy rocking recliner.  The ones they sell nowadays have a really smooth rocking motion that is similar to a glider.  My father is 6'4" and about 320 lbs, and he has had the same La-Z-Boy recliner for about 10 years, so I know they are durable and worth the investment!
    I HAVE CHILDREN.
  • Ditto on the La-Z-boy. DH is 6'5 and about 300 and we bought a great rocker recliner from La-Z-Boy for just under $700. Not cheap, but will last a long time and we got it in a fabric that we can move to the living room in a few years.
  • Our local craigslist has Dutailier gliders on it all the time. I'd check there.
  • My DH isn't as tall as yours, but does weigh close to what you mentioned.  We went to Buy Buy Baby and purchased a Little Castle glider.

I didn't want the ottoman, but I remember what it cost and with the chair you could save about $300.00 to $400.00 if you go with a Little Castle.
