Baby Names

Gray

We just found out that we're having a boy!!! We were all set on a girl's name, but we still have to nail down a boys name!?

DH and I both really like the name Gray for our son. ?We are wavering between William Gray (William after his Dad) or Grayer Andrew (Andrew is DH's mn).

We like the name Gray because we like uncommon names, and its a name that we think is fitting for both a little boy and a man. ??

Which combination do you prefer? ?

Re: Gray

  • I like William Gray better.
  • william gray.

i don't get grayer. it's an adjective. it sounds negative.

    grayson would be better, imo.

  • I love Gray as a NN for a boy, but I think if it's the first name, it should be the short form of something else. Grayer is ok, I prefer (love!) Graham.

Out of your two names, I prefer William Gray. But Graham Andrew would be my top choice.

    And congrats on the boy!

  • I love William Gray.

  • Out of the 2 you listed William Gray sounds much better.  on the whoel I don't like Gray as a first name or middle name at all.  To me it sounds like a last name and a color first and foremost.  Grayer is awful in my opinion - it's almost like a wonky version of Grier kwim?
  • I vote for William Gray since most people won't know or say his middle name. Gray is just a color to me, and not one that makes me all cheerful and happy either! Grayer is worse.

Somehow William Gray sounds fine though because I love William and with Gray as a middle name, it really sounds like you used a last name (family name) as the middle name.

  • William Gray.  Please, please reconsider Grayer as a first name.
    To be blunt, it's horrible.

  • I vote for William Gray...
  • Congrats on your son! I like Grey, with an e for some reason. What about Greyson. I think thats a cool name. I am not a fan of Grayer. GL!
  • William Gray hands down.
  • william gray for sure. i also like gray for a girl, but i really like it for a boy. grayer sounds a little weird and doesn't flow with andrew.

I like Gray as a first name, but not Grayer. If you want to call him Gray, just name him that :o)

William Gray, but I like Miles Jacob and Jacob Elliot (Elliot) a lot more. Grayer sounds like gayer.?
  • I like Gray by itself or Grayson with a mn Gray. Not sure about Grayer -- it's kind of hard to say. But I think Gray is a great name!
  • I knew someone named Graydon.  I prefer it to Grayer for a first name and the nn can still be Gray.

  • I like William Gray better. Grayer seems to be more likely to be picked on...(GAYer). My DH has a really good friend named Grayson if that helps any.
  • William Gray, but I prefer Grayson over Gray
  • 100% William Gray.  Grayer is HORRIBLE!

  • I think William Gray is great. Although, I prefer the spelling with an 'e' (Grey).
