Breast milk storage solution?

I'm pumping throughout the week for daycare bottles 2-3 days a week.  I can't store the milk in the bottles that I pump into b/c I need them to pump into the next day.  I don't like putting the milk into the bottles that he'll feed from b/c they don't seem to be air tight.  The milk/bottles stay in the refrigerator for a few days.  Anyone have glass storage bottles to suggest?  I'd like a tight sealed lid vs. bottle with nipple and lid.

Re: Breast milk storage solution?

  • I bought cheapie bottles from the Dollar store and froze milk in them. The ones I had had lids to seal them along with the nipples. Using them was nice because they were tall and skinny and took up very little room in the freezer.

Then I'd just put them in the fridge the day before I needed them.

  • What kind of bottles do you guys use? We have the cheap evenflo glass bottles and you can buy the cap rings with sealing disks for them - that would be a good glass storage solution. If that's not airtight enough, I just checked mine and our medela yellow lids fit on the evenflo glass bottles, so you could try something like that combo, too if you can find them sold separately. Are you trying to stay away from the storage bags? If not, I've been using them for the storage part and loving them!

Oh - and I think the Medela milk storage containers are bpa-free, too - so if you can't find a glass option that works, maybe look at those, too?

  • I have a Medela pump and I found some Evenflo bottles that screw right into the shields; they're the same size as the Medela bottles.  They are plastic though so that probably doesn't help you at all.  But the bottles come with the flat lids so you can use them for storage.
  • All great solutions, thank you!

I hadn't thought about other bottles fitting the breast pump flanges!  If the evenflo bottles fit with the Medela cap then I bet they'll fit on my Ameda flange b/c the Medela bottle does.  Perfect so I don't have to keep transferring from one bottle to another to another.  I've been using the storage bags and they're great but I'm going through them like crazy.

  • Dr. Brown's bottles fit on the Ameda flanges. And they sell caps for them too.
  • No way, Dr. Brown's fit too?  Thanks ladies!  I have had a Medela and a Dr. Brown's sitting in a cabinet (we bought different kinds of bottles and DS prefers Playtex nipples).  Now I have 2 more bottles to pump into!

playtex sells an adapter fot the drop-ins so you can pump directly into them -- if you're using the drop-ins.  It doesn't fit my avent, tho.  :-(
