How do you pronounce Eamon?

We are thinking of Eamon Thomas (among many others).  I am curious how people will pronounce it when they only see it written down.  BTW what do you think of the name?

Re: How do you pronounce Eamon?

  • Someone on this board has a son with that name. I'm not sure how to say it...I would think A-mon?

I don't love it, but it's okay. Definitely different. ?

A-mon.  I know a few guys from Ireland with this name.  I like it!
  • I would pronounce it "AY-mon" (long 'a' sound, as in 'day').

I like it, I think it's a very handsome name.

  • Ay-mun.  I love it.  It was really high on my list before I married into a Danish surname that it sounds stupid with.
  • Thanks for all the answers.  We have tons of names we are sifting through.  I hear a lot of Irish names since I liven ear Boston.  The middle eastern association made me laugh.

  • Ay-mon. Inevitably some people are going to say Ee-mon, but they don't get out much. :)
  • Ay-mon is how I would say it.  And it's a name that could grow on me.
  • Eee-mon, I know a middle eastern guy names Emon.
