Hilarious Response to Jury Duty Summons

This really made my day, although I do think that everyone should do their civic duty.  Still, it's funny that someone actually sent this and was excused from duty! lol:

"Apparently you morons didn't understand me the first time. I CANNOT take time off from work. I'm not putting my family's well-being at stake to participate in this crap. I don't believe in our "justice" system and I don't want to have a goddamn thing to do with it. Jury duty is a complete waste of time. I would rather count the wrinkles on my dog's balls than sit on a jury. Get it through your thick skulls. Leave me the F__K alone."

  • OMG!!! hilarious!

  • I don't find that funny at all. It's a complete abdication of your responsibility as someone who lives and participates in society. No one is sitting by the mailbox waiting for a jury summons, but then again, no one is chomping at the bit to pay their taxes either. It's not a question of "want," it's a question of duty.

I hope this person gets a contempt of court charge.

i agree - that's why it surprises me that this person is even registered to vote.  why would you care about voting if you feel that strongly against the justice system?

Simmer down, simmer down.  I also believe that it is important to do your civic duty (I mean, I'll be an officer of the court soon for goodness sakes), but can you not at least see the humor in someone having the chutzpah to actually send this?  No?  And BTW, he wasn't found in contempt of court, he was excused from duty.

    Jenifairies...it was on DListed

I'm not boiled over. I just don't find the humor in aggressive disrespect for something that's really a fairly remarkable right our country has that a whole lot of the rest of the world doesn't.

And seriously, what have you EVER heard that is more blatantly contemptuous of the court. The author may have been dismissed, because who would trust him to participate, but he more than merited a charge.

  • I agree with the "it's your civic duty, blah blah blah" camp, BUT, I think if I were to open up that envelope and read that response, I would fall off my chair and DIE laughing.

    Because srsly?  Who does that?

No, I do agree with you that it merited a contempt of court charge, I was just giving a factual statement that he was not, in fact, charged with contempt of court.  And while I do agree with you that it is a right and a priviledge to be able to perform jury duty (I was pretty saddened when I wasn't needed a couple weeks ago) I guess I just don't get as riled up when others don't feel the same.  There are plenty of others who I would prefer on a jury to this guy anyway.  It's a fairly common cliche that people don't like jury duty, and I find the humor in the fact that he had the balls to articulate what many others probably feel, even if I disagree with the sentiment.

  • jury duty sucks, but not that bad
  • I don't think Judah was attempting to start a debate about our "civic duty" people!  Obviously the person who sent it is a moron.  It was a damn funny response though!

Because voting is one of the only ways to change it. I don't think it's that hard of a concept to want to vote but still be annoyed by the justice system.

  • Call me crazy, but if he refuses to participate in the justice system, why should he benefit from it? If that guy ever ends up in court I think that letter should be read aloud to the jury. What a jerk! I am so thankful for our system- like any system it gets abused and doesn't work seamlessly, but we're blessed to have something like it.

I'm not trying to start a debate about jury duty being a civic responsibility. I guess I'm just weird because I don't find anything funny about blatant disrespect.

Just an FYI...you don't have to be registered to vote to be called to Jury Duty. I am not registered to vote and get summonsed for Jury Duty every three years like clockwork.

Just saying she may not be registered, but is getting a summons anyway.

  • Am I the only one that kind of liked jury duty? I didn't get picked though...
  • I think the thing about jury duty that sucks the most is that if you live paycheck by paycheck and your work won't give you paid time off to attend, you really can't afford to do jury duty. In my county they paid us $10 a day -- great if you're already paid, or if you're unemployed, but many of us can't afford to forego a week of pay even if we want to do our civil duty.
