Anybody not using an infant carseat?

And getting a convertible instead? ?Which one did you/are you getting? ?I plan on using an infant seat but wanted to know if there were any convertible seats that ACTUALLY will work for infants that I could use in another vehicle we don't use very often . ?THANKS!

Why don't you just buy an extra base for the infant carseat.

As far as I know, you should only use rear-facing infant carseats for infants.

  • Loading the player...
  • The Britax Roundabout we got says you can use it from 5 pounds and up. So, that would be an option for a convertible that's supposed to work with a newborn.

EDIT: This seat can be installed rear-facing.

We really thought we were going to skip the whole travel system thing, but in the end decided to get one -- during the summer, with all our family reunions and stuff, we decided it'd be easier to unsnap the whole seat and carry it with us instead of having to potentially wake him/her.

Also, we got a travel system that's got the Graco SnugRide 32 seat, which conveniently snaps into our Jeep all-terrain stroller. So, I'll be able to go for walks with it and take baby outside with me while I'm gardening/hanging clothes on the line, etc.

Yeah it was $250 we spent on the travel system fully knowing our LO won't likely fit in it very long, but it's a chance we're taking.

  • We're getting the bugaboo which doesn't come with an infant car seat, so at first we considered not buying the snap in part and infant seat...but it seems crazy to wake a sleeping baby just to take them out of the car...I agree about buying the second base (that's what we're doing)

  • We have three cars we need to install car seats for. ?We have the snugride 32 and an extra base. ?The third car we were thinking of not wasting another $30 on getting a base and instead putting it towards a good convertible seat :). ?Some convertibles are rear facing for up to a certain weight.
  • We just had 2 bases for the infant seat.  DD outgrew the height at 6 months and we bought the Evenflo Triumph Advanced.  DD actually likes it better than the infant seat.  She cried every car ride in the infant seat and when we switched she stopped crying and always sleeps.

Personally I wouldn't use a convertible as an infant seat.  It's so much easier to take the baby out in the infant seat.  You can shop, go out to dinner...and never take baby out of the seat.
