Different REs use different protocols.  Some start with lupron, some start with BCP, some are completely natural.

For both mine (and the on in the middle that was cancelled) I started with 3 weeks of BCP, had an endometrial biopsy in the third week.  Then after I got my period, on CD3, I started estrace.  Some REs prescribe estrace, some use patches.  Once my lining was thick enough, I added in 4 days of progesterone.  I had my transfer on the 5th day of progesterone.

My transfer was on CD17 - so it mirrored what would be a "normal" natural cycle.  The estrace keeps you from ovulating at all, so you need to stay on estrace and progesterone throughout the 2ww and into the pregnancy if successful.

It's much less stressful in general.  The only aspect that stresses me out is my lining.  I never have lining issues on fresh cycles, but have a difficult time getting a decent lining for FETs.

    Good luck.

  • My FET was really easy.  After doing bcp, I did Lupron.  I also did IM injections of estrogen and then started PIO.  We had only two frozen embabies and one didn't make the thaw, so we transfered that one.  All-in-all, my appointment were few and far in between and it was, in all, a MUCH easier cycle than a full IVF.

    Best of luck to you!

  • thanks so much for your thoughts. I am just excited to get started.
  • I didn't do Lupron or BCP. ?I started estrace on CD1 and PIO on CD19. ?I am having my embryos transfered today. ?Easy. ?:)

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I am at the end of an FET cycle right now. Here is what it has been so far.

    3/22/09 Start BCP

    4/7/09 Start Lupron

4/20 Start twice weekly IM estrogen injections

    4/30/09 Start daily PIO injections

    5/5/09 Transfer

There have been about 5 monitoring appointments in total. Overall it ?has been so much easier on my body. I developed severe ohss during my ivf so our transfer was cancelled. Good luck to you!?

  • My FET has definitely been easier than my IVF.  Here is my protocol:

4/2 started bcp, 4/18 started lupron and will stay on lupron until 5/16.  4/22 took last bcp.  4/28 was my cd3 u/s and showed all clear to go.  I started vivelle patches on 4/29 and will continue with them until transfer.  I also started baby asprin on 4/29.  My next u/s is 5/16.  If all goes well with that I start PIO and Endometrium suppositories on 5/18 and transfer is set for 5/22.

Hope that helps.  All in all, way less meds, and way fewer appointments.  Good luck!
