Trying to Get Pregnant

Epidurals

Has anyone given these any thought before BFP? We haven't even started TTC, but I'm fairly certain I'm ready for mine already.

Re: Epidurals

  • I'm ready for mine already, too.  Most definitely yes, I will get one.  Embarrassed

  • who knows what will happen when it's time. But I don't think I will get one - mainly for my huge fear of needles.

BUT since I will have an IV either way, I know there is a pain med that they can give you to help with the pain too - not as good - but no giant needles in the back!

  • I want one, but I am a little nervous about one.
  • I thought about this a lot after watching the Business of Being Born. I would loooove to say that I'll will have a drug-free delivery, but I am too afraid of pain. (Domer you are my hero).?

  • When I was pregnant with DD I was so determined to have a "natural" birth.  Six hours of having contractions on Pitocin I threw all of that out the window and got the Epidural.  It was the BEST thing ever!!!!  It was so funny to hear DH say "you're having a big one (contraction)" and me just shrugging my shoulders like "OK, thanks".

You know, I've heard so many people say that, that the epi was the best thing ever.  Yay for meds, lol.

Same here...although I am really hoping I can do it naturally. I plan on doing hypnobirthing classes also. But I will be prepared for intervention if it's really necessary. ?

  • I mean don't get me wrong, I admire the women that can go natural. I'm just not that kind of girl. Needles don't scare me one bit (chemo kind of kicked that fear). I think I've just seen too many a baby story's where they try and go med-free for hours and are miserable and then they finally give in and take the meds.

This. I hate needles but if it's for my own good and no pain I don't mind them at all. I don't like being in pain!

  • I was in labor for a little over 24 hours w/ dd and I had her all natural. I will definitly do it again even though it sucks. As soon as its over theres no pain. Also I hate needles.
  • I am hoping to go natural but I am keeping my mind open. If I have a relatively fast labor, and I dilate quickly, I will stick it out and deliver naturally. I'm not a big fan of needles, and the idea of being completely with it and getting to enjoy the natural endorphins afterward appeals to me.

However, if the labor is long and drawn out, I'm getting the epi. I've watched too many baby stories to see the woman scream for 13 hrs, only to end up getting the epidural and peacefully sleeping through the rest of her contractions until it is time to push.

  • Stab me ASAP. I'm terrified of needles, but I also don't want to be screaming and crying in pain. I'll take the needle over that.

  • I'll take the epi.  Me and pain just don't mix well. I blacked out getting my belly button pierced!

  • I had one with DD and will definitely do it again!
  • I am for sure!!!  I hate pain and i've had spinal taps before with no meds to numb....so i'm pretty sure i'll be able to handle it.

mom told me very proudly many times that she went natrual....she's also horrified of needles.

    1 epidural please!

  • I'm thinking that I won't... but only because I am super paranoid about taking medication!  I have a feeling though that a long painful labor would get me over the paranoia very quickly. :)

  • I really want to go natural. I had a spinal with my d/c and sometimes my back hurts so bad in that area.
Lapband wife wanting a baby since 2008. 162lbs lost...30 more to go.
  • I would definitely love to say I had kids with no medication -- my mom had all 4 kids with no drugs...wow.  I'm worried about an epidural though, because they say it can affect the baby and you get real tired and are out of it when the baby is born.
  • i don't want to do it, and my back is crappy enough as it is. i hope to God i can go natural.?
