3rd Trimester

Private Practice Infuriating Storyline.

For those that watch private practice.

I cannot believe the storyline with Violet and her baby.  I don't care if that patient follows through with the procedure on her baby or not, I think the storyline is completely uncalled for.   DH and I were sitting there fuming and couldn't believe they would even go there.

Re: Private Practice Infuriating Storyline.

  • I don't understand your anger.  That kind of thing happens!  Plus, keep in mind it's sweeps right now in TV so the shows are going for shock value right now.

  • I'm sure it HAS happened before, but chances of that happening are slim to none, but that's just really messed up.  Being pregnant I know makes me more sensitive to that - I mean it's more disturbing than anything!  I just think it's unnecessary to have that as a storyline.
  • PLEASE??? we don't watch but we must know!
  • I almost vomited, seriously. Just that entire situation...it was horrible. If anyone else hasn't watched it and was planning on it I say avoid it. Sounds extreme, but no pregnant woman should watch it!

Violet has a patient who is mentally disturbed.  She lost her baby weeks ago and could not come to terms that she lost her baby.   She keeps thinking it's still alive.   Violet is pregnant, and continues to see this patient through her mental illness and the D&C procedure.  Anyway, the patient gets a hold of her address and rings her doorbell.   Drugs Violet and says she's going to cut her baby out of her, because she believes that Violet "has" her baby.  The patient believes Violet is carrying her baby and stole her baby.    Violet is drugged from the waist down and cannot move or get help.  Anyway, the patient starts to go to cut the baby out and Violet stops her and tells her she's doing it wrong and procedes to tell her how to cut the baby out.  It was severely disturbing.

Edit:  now if the patient "actually" goes through with it we don't know because that's the season finallly.  If they do go through with it - I will not be watching the show anymore.  I think that TV might be going for "shock value", but there is a line that shouldn't be crossed.

  • Eh, it's just a TV show.  The chances of alot of things happening are very slim, but that doesn't mean they don't happen.  PP is on the air to make $, not to bore their audience to death.  I think the story line is interesting, it's something that happens (the most common reason for death of a pregnant women I believe).
  • OMG. thanks for sharing OMG... OMG.  Yeah, i'll skip that one.

  • I thought the whole episode was awesome!!  Obviously the Violet storyline has a super-creepy "Misery" theme going on, but holy mackeral - I can't wait to see what happens!  They can't possibly kill Violet off, can they?!

The most common reason for the death of a pregnant lady is someone trying to cut their baby out of them?  What???

There's no way they'd be stupid to actually go through with it, but then again it is TV, so you never know.

Actually no, the leading cause of death of pregnant women is murder from a SO.

  • Yeah, I could see that (murder by your SO causing the most deaths in pg women).  But I think the baby getting cut out of the belly thing definitely happens somewhat often.  I am not a fan of burying my head in the sand about stuff like this.  I think the show is great, really.

Really? you think that... wow.    No one here I don't think is burying their head in the sand.   When you officially get to 3rd Tri maybe they will be ok with your comments, but I think you are rather uninformed about how pregnant women die in the world.

  • I understand with what you're saying about Private Practice.  I used to watch both Grey's and PP, until the storylines got so absolutely ridiculous that I could no longer watch them with a straight face!  I know that the writers include a whole lot of super-dramatic rarely-happens-in-real-life stuff, because it's more exciting than a show about normal people with normal lives, but, come on...

I had not one but two people call me tonight - to warn me about someone attacking and killing me to get my baby - after the show was on!  *eyeroll*  So now I'm up late, watching it in DVR (my husband watches it still, so we DVR it).  It was pretty chilling to watch the attack scene, being pregnant!

Yes!!! I don't watch Grey's anymore because of that same thing.  It's sad when good tv goes bad.

I agree... I don't think that happens very often at all!  Sure, it happens, and women get attacked and raped regularly, etc., but it's not very common.  So, yes, any of us could be attacked by a deranged woman who's after our baby, but the likelihood of this happening is so, so, so very slim, it's barely worth considering.

It's always smart to be careful, as a pregnant woman or otherwise... (for example, I almost never answer the door to a stranger when I'm home alone.  I'm nervous like that.)  But that's just common sense Smile, I don't have a particular fear that someone is going to remove my baby from my body!

  • Yes the story line is very extreme, but it's JUST A STORY. If you don't want to watch it don't. FI didn't want me to watch it, but I knew they weren't gonna show anything graphic and I know that nothing like that is going to happen to me. Yes it happens, but like PP have said, it's so rare. You're more likely to get swine flu!!
  • I didnt really find it that offensive.  Its just a TV show, an hour before that a 4 year old shot her father 17 times, does that mean all fathers should freak out now??  Plus, Violet is the womans psychiatrist, so obviously, they are making a connection between patient and doctor, not random person and random pregnant lady....
