Who pays?

(I'm double posting this on the baby shower board, but I'm not sure how much traffic that will get)

OK, this sounds like an obvious question, but to me at least the answer isn't very clear. ?When a friend/relative hosts a shower for you, what costs do he/she typically cover, or does "hosting" simply refer to putting in the blood/sweat/tears associated with planning (which is, of course, equally valuable)? ?I expect this varies according to the friend, etc. and where the shower is. ?For me, we're having a medium sized coed shower (with maybe 30 people or so) thrown by a good friend of mine at a local nice pizza/italian restaurant. ?Thanks for your advice!?

Re: Who pays?

  • I would think whoever is hosting is paying.

  • It should be paid for by the person hosting the shower. The mother to be really shouldn't be expected to have to do anything or pay IMO!

Ditto. That's usually part of the "hosting" thing.
  • My hosts are paying for the shower 100% Mom is paying for her shower and MIL for hers.

For my bridal shower the moms split the costs and the bridesmaids (and I did too) did all the work.

You should not be the one paying, but if you have other friends/relatives that are willing to chip in and help out with expenses, that would probably help out the host.  For SIL and DH's cousin's shower MIL and the aunts all helped with the expense of the shower.  For DH's cousin's shower her mom basically called her sisters and asked if they were willing to help with the cost of the shower like 2 weeks before the shower day.  (I know, kinda rude)

  • The host(s)
  • Thanks, this is all really helpful!
