Anyone's baby get a virus in the NICU?

Well besides all our other issues, Dylan has been sick since the weekend and they tested him for some virus, I can' tremember the name and it came back positive.  Dr. didn't seem too concerned said it was just a cold and cough and just needed to run its course but of course I'm freaking out. We really didnt' need this.  He hasn't had a fever just a bad cough and very congested.  He was pretty bad on Monday-not eating and lethargic-but hes eating again (alot!) and more awake so I'm hoping htat means hes getting better.

Any experience?  It's not RSV by the wya, he was tested for that. One thing after another..:(

  • It is very common for babies to catch germs while in the NICU.  Its a very good sign that he's eating again and acting like himself.  Did you happen to see my private message I sent over the weekend?  I also got a business card of one of the social workers at Columbia while I was there on Tues. so you can contact her if they are still going to transfer him there.  They told me that she would be the best person to speak with I guess as far as the transfer and accomodations.  You can email me too if you'd like.  I hope he gets over the virus quickly!

  • Never mind I figured it out. THanks, we have to wait until D gets better to see what we are going to do!

  • not a virus, but Campbell got a bacterial infection.  It was pretty bad but she recovered quickly.  I hope Dylan gets better soon!
  • YES!! DS Contracted CMV (Cyto-meglyo virus). I was so mad, since it is spread through poor hand washing. It caused DS to get VERY sick and like PP it just had to "run its course", since antibiotics don't work for viruses. I just kept thinking, he could seriously do with-out this. We were still monitoring his WBC count months after he came home. They were such sticklers with DH and I about hand-washing and gelling, I was surprised that this could happen.
