Vent: I hate feeding tube med ports

Olivia has now twice managed to feed the bed - early this morning and again during her nap.   Beyond the mess (and the fact that she lost part of her feeding) is the smell.   Formula that has been sitting in her stomach for who knows how long comes back out from the tube and sits there.  Ugh.   I'm already on my 2nd load of her laundry today and it's only 12:30.

I hate taping the port because I use it for some of her meds and the tape makes it sticky.  But yeah - sticky med port is better than gross smelling bed linens.

Ok vent over

  • Oh no!  I'm so sorry.  We stopped putting sheets on the boys beds because of this and because of all the vomit.  We just put down a waterproof rubber sheet, a receiving blanket, another rubber sheet and another receiving blanket.  There are towels on all the furniture, the floor, everywhere.

And my DH says that old Neocate smells like buffalo sauce.  I think it smells like sour milk.  Yuck!

Not having a child with a feeding tube, I obviously don't have any great advice, but I just want to send you a big cyber ((hug)). ?

  • I keep waiting for this to happen to us.

So far the worst I've done is to have the extension on while feeding him orally (obviously this was a while ago, since he hasn't eaten in a while) but didn't have the cap on. He's swallowing and out it's coming. Of course, it's body temp so it took a bit to realize we were both wet.

I only use the pump at night and morning feeds. During the day I gravity feed.. he has managed to grab everything and rip it apart a time or two. That's fun, too.

     Wheee, G tubes. *sigh*
