Am I the only one that had a super easy C-Section recovery?

It seems like whenever we have these c-sec vs vaginal delivery questions a ton of people talk about their horrible c-sec recoveries.  I guess I'm lucky because I had ZERO issues with my recovery.  I was up hours after my c-section and I only took Tylenol and Motrin after the procedure.  I had very little pain as long as I took them.  I drove 45 minutes each way to the NICU everyday for two weeks and carried Aubrey in the carseat.

I'm not trying to brag just want to make sure the pregnant ladies know that not everyone has a bad experience with their c-sections.  I know I can't be the only one with a good experience. Smile

PS FWIW I was going to try a vaginal delivery, but both my babies were breech.

Re: Am I the only one that had a super easy C-Section recovery?

  • I had an easy one, too. I think there is a huge difference in a planned c/s and an emergency c/s. I was up the moment I could feel my legs to go to the NICU. I also was able to go to a festival downtown and walk around 7 days after (during the NICU shift change when we got kicked out for an hour).

  • I had a fairly easy recovery.  I was on the pain meds while in the hospital and for 3 days after.  After that I was so constipated that I switched to just tylenol.  And I closed on my house the day after discharge and packed and moved two days later.

I didn't have any bleeding/infection or stitches/staples to be removed.  So I'm with you....it's not that bad.

Good point!  Mine was not planned but it was not an emergency either.  I'm sure that does make a difference.

  • me too! ?and thank goodness for that! ?i was up and walking the next morning (my c was at 7:30pm) off the pain meds in less than a week, went to a company christmas party a week later and was driving by day 7 or 8. ?Since i was going to the NICU every day also I was very happy that I didn't have to deal with a difficult recovery myself! ?(Oh, and mine was somewhere between emergency and planned. ?I found out at 3 pm at my peri's office that I had to have the c-section that night.)
  • Mine was super easy, too.  I had an unplanned but non-emergency and I was down to the NICU within 12 hours.  I have joked that the worst part of my whole delivery was the IV and the constipation.  I had very little pain and was off the pain killers within 2 days.  I knew I'd have to have a c/s becuase the girls were mono-mono and I was a little scared but it was so much better than I was warned it would be.
  • my c-section was planned, and it hurt like helllll afterwards. it could have been because i was bedridden for 24+ hours afterwards, since i was on a magnesium drip.

i will say, though, that every day was a lot better than the last, and by the time the boys were all home (13 days) i was 100% better. but those two weeks were brutal! i had to get a wheelchair to make it to the NICU.

I had mag before my rescue cerclage and I swear I felt worse the two days after that than the two days after my c/s. Like I was hit by a bus.

  • I will tell anyone who asks (and most people who don't) that my c/s was by far the easiest part of my pregnancy.  I was up walking as soon as they let me and I was able to walk myself part of the way to the NICU the night they were born (they were born at 6a) -- and honestly the only reason I felt a bit weak was because I had spent the 9 weeks prior on strict bedrest.  I was discharged a day early and that evening I went out to dinner with my DH & family.  My engorgement hurt WAY more than my c/s -- and I didn't take anything stronger than motrin once I went home.

So no, you are not alone!!  Big Smile

  • I also had a super easy recovery. Same as you, I was up walking hours later, only used motrin and tylenol, was driving 5 days later and carrying the carseat around. I would have tried vaginal as well, but both boys were breech. I was very happy with my c-section and recovery though.
  • I responded horribly to the spinal and pain killers but I actually recovered from the incision and surgery really quickly.  I had to remind myself not to lift heavy things, etc b/c I honestly could do a lot more than I was allowed.  I took myself off percacet (sp?)

early as well.  That stuff made me loopy.

  • nope! mine was a breeze!!!
  • I had an emergency c-section because one of my boys' heartbeats started getting a little erratic. So they rushed me in and did it fast.

And I'll tell you, my recovery was great. It hurt when I sneezed, but if I took medicine I was fine! I drove myself to the NICU every day and really had no complications!

Ditto!  That's about the same time I found out, my OB told me to head for the hospital!  Too bad all I had eaten was some popcorn so we had to wait a few extra hours.  If I would have known I would have eaten something more exciting as my "last meal."
  • My c-section was planned and my recovery was very painful and I think I handle pain well.  I once pierced my own ears.

I had to stay in my hospital bed for 24 hours after.  Part of my pain could have been from carrying triplets for so long AND my doctor stitched some of my ab muscles back into place.

  • I had a super easy c-section recovery as well.

actually, the mag didn't bother me at all. i was expecting it to be awful. maybe because i was only on a small dose of it?

also, another thing that sucked about my c/s is that my incision opened up a little bit afterwards. GRODY!

  • Mine was pretty easy.  there was a med problem in the hospital so I was in a lot of pain the first 3 days but after that it was easier than I thought.  I was up and down stairs carrying babies the day I came home.  The OB released me to exercise (LOLOLOLOL) at my 2 week appt, no lie.

they had me up within 6 hrs of delivery and really had no complications.

  • mine was super easy too! I really only had one day of intense pain...and then once I was discharged I never took any of the percocet...never needed it...just motrin.

I wasn't supposed to be driving for a week but I did everyday...to see the  babies and to nurse them...never had an issue...I personally wouldnt lift anything more than 10 pounds tho...being a L&D nurse I have seen one too many times a woman do that and SPLIT her incision...there is a real reason why they tell you not to.

  • I am so JEALOUS! I wasn't even all the way numb when they started cutting. (It didn't hurt) But I could feel the pressure, and them moving things around and tugging and pulling.Ewe. Still gives me the chills to think about it.  So maybe it was worse because it was emergency, who knows. All know is it totally sucked. Glad to hear you all had such good experiences. That has got to be very encouraging for the girls that are still prego.
  • I had a great recovery/experience.  I was up and down the stairs with babies from the minute we got home and we were out with both of them at the hospital the morning after because DS needed a bilirubin test.  One week after they were born we brought them to a dinner party at a friend's house.  I felt great and couldn't believe how easy my recovery was.  I was super pleased.
  • I had a super easy EMERGENCY c section.  I was declining all pain meds by day 2 and only taking them  when it was time to shower.  The boys had jaundice so I was walking back and forth to the nursery to nurse.  I helped carry the boys in when we came home and took the trash out that night.
