Poll: How much did you spend...

on baby gear and necessities before the baby arrived?

Did you get most of what you needed on your registry?

How often does BRU have coupons? I now (thanks to MrsWright and Lunabeam) have the ones that expire today. :)

Re: Poll: How much did you spend...

  • Honestly... not too much.  We got a LOT of hand me downs... and GCs.  We spent $250 on the rocker... $100 on a mattress... $75 on a used crib... and then just small stuff (diapers, etc).  So... less than $500.  We were very lucky.

  • Around $1000 I bet (but 95% of that was the Bugaboo and my breast pump).  ILs gave us $500 for the nursery that covered a lot (we used our own dressers, so they bought the bedding, crib and glider.)  I just bought a few decorations and a few things we didn't get off the registry like burp cloths and pacifiers.

  • on baby gear and necessities before the baby arrived? not very much, im sorta embarrassed to say I had 4 showers. Friends and family were extremely generous. I also craigslisted the crib and glider. My mom bought the changing table. Where we spent the most money was re-doing the room.

Did you get most of what you needed on your registry? yes

  • Let's see - before showers we bought furniture, bedding and mattress.

After shower (super recently) we ended up needing/wanting to buy - the video monitor ($174), PISA breast pump ($210), diaper champ ($33), changing pad ($25), extra base for carseat, pack n play sheet, extra crib sheet, few clothes (because I just couldn't resist), few little toys (again no will power) and I think that was it.  Some we got on sale.

We did well at our showers but NO ONE bought anything off my registry for my work shower, so some I returned and used the money towards things we would need and some I kept because I forgot I would need them (like baby washcloths, hangers, wipes, baby bathtime things, etc).

  • Honestly I have no idea. I bought expensive bedding when we were still ttc, but the furniture we got for CHEAP, used my rocking chair, and we got the bouncer, swing, jumparoo, exusauser, breast pillow, boppy, a ton of toys and LOTs of clothing from my sister's kids. What I spent the most on was my cloth diaper colection, I think I have spent 200 so far on it. I think we spent under 1,000, but to be honest DH would have a much better idea.

We did get a lot of good stuff from friends and family at the shower and I got a ton of handme downs. But we still ended up at Babies R Us about five times in the first week just getting stuff we needed.

  • Not much!

His Crib and infant car seat, my rocker, and boppy were hand me downs.

CL/Consignment Store: Swing $100, Exersaucer $25, crib bedding set $40

We spent about $150 on his closet setup/changing station, maybe $100 on paint and trim (We put in built-ins 3 years ago, so I'm not counting those, but they cost about $300 for supplies)

We got a LOT of our registry stuff, but I also didn't register for much (a sister with a 1 year old who isn't PG again yet comes in handy! LOL) So our Diaper Champ, Space Saver high chair, bath stuff... all shower gifts.

I'm trying to think of the other stuff from early on...

  • Oh right... breast pump!  Yeah... that set me back too!  Guess I spent more than I remembered!  Ha!

  • We got a lot of nice gifts and hand me downs, but we had grand plans for the nursery and probably spent an additional $300 on stuff even though we did EVERYTHING by hand ( made furniture, bedding, mural, etc)

I got everything off my registry except for my pump.

No idea, I was never smart enough to use one!

  • I should say we skimped in a lot of areas so that I could get the stroller, since that was top on my list.

We got a lot from our registry, but I feel like I registered for a lot of basics and returned a lot of extras for say, a second car seat base.

Since I bring C to work, I also bought a few used items off of Craigslist.

We only really buy diapers and wipes and now some food accessories.  I use diapers.com but always look at the BRU coupons in case there is a deal too good to be true.

  • on baby gear and necessities before the baby arrived?  We got alot at our showers, but needed to return some stuff, so we had giftcards and store credit that helped alot with the little things we still needed.

Did you get most of what you needed on your registry?Yes, I had a family/friends shower, and both of our works gave us showers too!  The big stuff we bought were the nursery furniture, BOB stroller and her 2 Britax's.

How often does BRU have coupons? They have both some in a mailer, some via e-mail and they do that little card they hand you at the register.  I say pretty often, but I went in BRU weekly/bi-weekly when she was first born.  Check these boards too as sometimes people post links to coupons (especially the national boards)

  • I don't think we spent much at all. Maybe $200-$300 ? My Parents bought Darrian his crib, monitor, stroller/carseat set. My cousin's family got us the swing, at our shower that came right after he was born we got most of the things from our registry.

I don't think we bought any big ticket items beyond bedding and that was $70.00. Everything else we were given as gifts.

  • About $2k.  But, we splurged on a glider/furniture.  We could have spent a lot less.  And we did get a ton at our showers.
  • I did something bad...and peeked at the registry...almost all of the big items are still on there. I shouldn't have peeked. My last shower is this SUnday.?

I'm a coupon whore. I'm part of the rewards program at BRU but haven't seen as many coupons as I thought.

We haven't spent anything so far, but by the looks of it, we may spend a lot. I wish I didn't peek!!!! lol?

  • We spent a lot.  We got a lot of beautiful and amazing gifts, but very few of them were off the registry.  We bought all the furniture and decor for the nursery, rug, bedding, essentials, breastpump, stroller, etc, etc.  The one thing we didn't buy was a single piece of clothing.

  • We spent too much!!!! lol But my lil one arrived two months early so I didn't have my shower until after she was born, so I bought a lot of stuff myself. BRU sends me some pretty good coupons in the mail, but amazon.com is always way cheaper. For the stroller, packnplay, swing, & highchair I saved a total of $400 compared to BRU and they have free shipping.
  • We didn't get a ton of stuff from our registry that I recall.  We got the crib really early and my IL's paid for it.  My dad and stepmom got us the stroller.  My BFF got us the co-sleeper.  We bought the recliner and first carseat ourselves when we found huge sales.  We got a lot of clothes, diapers, wipes, and bath stuff at our shower.  I bought some clothes (maybe $200 worth).  I got my breast pump from my SIL, and bought cheap replacement parts.  We returned duplicates and used that credit to buy all the other stuff we needed.  After the baby came we got a bunch of hand me downs from our neighbors -- an exersaucer, a bouncy seat, and a full size swing.  It was a huge gift since that stuff wasn't on our registry and would have cost at least $150 even from a consignment shop!

After I came back to work, my employer gave us a gift card that bought the convertible carseat.

I think all told we spent about $1K on baby gear including the recliner.

  • Honestly, probably about $1,500 when all was said and done. We got a lot of wonderful hand-me-downs (pump, swing, glider, co-sleeper, snap-n-go stroller, etc) from my BFF which helped out a lot, but got very few of the items from our registry from our showers. Instead, most people got us things they thought we'd like, which was sweet and generous, but not very helpful. We ended up having to buy most of the big ticket gear items ourselves.

  • Our list was about $1400 but we put off buying the highchair, convertible car seat & stroller. (We had the snap & go but held off on buying the big stroller.) So that cut back our costs considerably ... I think we spent closer to $700-800 before the baby came. That included a lot of stuff!

From the registry we got a few basics, the bath & the crib. We got a LOT of clothes.

I never see the BRU coupons anymore but I know they come out fairly often! (or they did when I was pg at least) 3rd tri circulates them often.?
