Success after IF

Can you guys take a look at my insurance?

I emailed Aetna yesterday to get everything checked out, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on everything.

1) I don't have to register for routine maternity care or delivery.
2) C-sections, epidurals, and episiotomies are covered. I don't have a deductible when using a "participating provider" (not sure if that refers to the hospital, doc, or both? Also, does participating just mean they accept Aetna, or does that mean "in-network"? If it was in-network, wouldn't they say that?), and my copay will be $150. I have no yearly maximum.
3) Well child exams are covered, but I have to select a PCP for the baby (when do I need to start looking into that?)
4) Birthing, childcare, and/or CPR and First aid classes aren't covered. (I found a hypnobirthing class at our hospital for $215, does that seem reasonable?)
5) I didn't really get a clear answer on whether or not midwives are covered, it says that if a physician employs the midwife, the bill would come from the group...but I'm going with an all-midwife practice, so I guess I'll have to clarify that? Also, they couldn't locate my midwife practice, but I think that's because I spelled it wrong.

I'm going to clarify a few points on their e-mail in a minute, does anyone else have any other questions I should ask them? Does any of that seem "off"? THANKS!

  • 1.  That is standard for "most" insurance companies.

    2.  Also Standard just make sure that the the anesthesia would be covered sometimes the hospital is in network but the anesthesiologist is NOT in network.

    3.  Ask your OBGYN or friend with babys to recommend their pediatrician, also find out how many well child exams are covered the first year.  My ins covers nine and my pediatrician does nine well baby exams but some only cover six.  Anything over the max will not be covered.

    4.  Also standard my insurance did not cover any classes

    5.  Clarify with both your insurance and midwife.

  • 1.  I didn't have to.  I called to make sure everything was covered.

    2. I had to make sure the anthesiologist was covered because something they aren't.

    3.  My girls were covered for 30 days, then I needed to find them a pedi.

    4.  Mine weren't covered either

    5.  You will have to call the practice, ask them, and call back the insurance company with the correct name and address.
