I loved my maternity leave. It was only 5 weeks and definitely felt like a vacation. I was lucky and had an easy baby. Hope your friend gets lucky too!
Haha. I remember thinking I'd have time to organize the closets in the spare room and catch up on my photo albums during my maternity leave. Yeah right! I STILL haven't done it, and now my house is lucky to be cleaned more than twice a month (aside from running the vaccum, but only b/c DD likes to ride in the Bjorn while I do it).
That's what I thought at first too. I had a really long list of things I wanted to get accomplished around the house those 8 weeks...I did NOTHING but look after Max.
I thought I was going to have a sparkling house and dinners ready every night. Then I had a 30 hour labor and a c-section. I was useless for 3 weeks and still have days where I get next to nothing done. I hired a cleaning lady to do the bathrooms/kitchen before my son's Baptism last weekend as I was back at work 1/2 time and just needed to clear out the baby crap we don't use so you could see the counters.
My SIL on the other hand had an easy labor and her mom stays overnight 2 times a week to do evening feedings. She's got a clean house, lovely meals made and has been furniture shopping.
I am loving every minute of my maternity leave, but it certainly isn't a vacation in the way of being relaxing. ?I think that's what some people don't get before having kids. ?I have friends (who don't have kids yet) ask, "Aren't you bored?" or "What do you do all day?"
My 7 weeks of bedrest were much more of a vacation than the 7 weeks I had off for ML- it was a vacation from work and was definately easier than being a mom AND working , but I agree she is in for a surprise!

I LOVED not being at work. LOVED it. In that sense, it was a vacation.
I dont' know.... I really enjoyed my mat leave. The first couple weeks were really hard- but after that? Got into a groove and enjoyed it.
