125 items on my registry.... yikes!!!!

I have been obsessing over my registry and using lots of suggestions from baby bargains, friends, and you ladies.  Well, I think I am done my registry (finally!) and I have 125 items!  That seems like an awful lot!  I only have a few big ticket items (8 items $100+ and 9 items $50-$100).  I also have alot of low dollar items (35 under $10), which primarily includes medicine cabinet type items - tylenol, gas drops etc.  I really tried to be practical, registered for lots of necessities -no clothes (except basic white onesies), no frou frou stuff for the nursery, no blankets, only a few toys.   I'm shocked because I have done some mad shopping and bought ALOT of stuff on my own - all furniture, rug, mattress, crib bedding, stroller, snap n go, diaper bag sling, etc.

Is this size registry normal?  Does it make me look greedy? Will shower guests be turned off when they see the sheer size of it?  I am having two showers, with about 40 invited to each.  there is no way I'll even close to get all that stuff, right?

  • I think it is really hit or miss and in my opinion it is better to have lots of options for your guests on the registry. The problem is, come people just won't look at it or use it.  I probably had 200+ items on my wedding registry including 12 place settings of china and regular dishes and I got every single thing I registered for plus about $10,000.  With my baby registry I have gotten about 20 items out of 80 or so that were on there and my last shower is this Sunday.  I'm not sure if it's a generational thing or a regional thing (my family from NY/NJ just gave us cash for the wedding, so maybe they don't "do" registries?) but I got six registry items from a 22 person shower last weekend.

I think I easily could have put double what I put on the registry and still have mostly things that are necessities...I just only put things we'd need for the first 3 months primarily.....figuring the most important stuff was what we would need first.  I finally put a high chair on there after my mother called complaining that people didn't understand why there wasn't one (no one bought it)

So, I think it is fine to have that many things.  It seems like you've got a great range of items.  I hope you have better luck getting stuff off of it than I did ; )

  • I think that's fine.  I personally usually get something in the $50 range for a shower.  I think people will like that you have a bunch of stuff that is lower in cost and will use a bunch of those to make baskets or something.

I know for my shower, almost everything was gone from my registry.  There was only 1 or 2 people who bought stuff that wasn't on there - I think registries make shopping MUCH easier for people!!!
