Do you have/ride a bike?

What kind do you have?

DH has a nice road bike, but I want something more comfy for riding, probably that can take a trailer for Max.

Suggestions?

Re: Do you have/ride a bike?

  • My DH has a Marin mountain bike he got from REI, I would like a cruiser, the kind you can put you your feet down while sitting still, because i am a chicken! I am not sure if you can put a trailer on that though!

  • I have a road bike.  But I'd go to a bike store and check out what you want.  Road bikes are lighter than mt bikes or hybrid bikes. Performance bikes is my fav store, they have great deals on bikes.
  • DH and I both have bikes. His is a Specialized. I think it's really considered a hybrid - not quite a road bike, not quite a mountain bike. My bike is old and I don't really know what it is. My FIL fixed up his ex-wife's old bike for me. With that being said, DH's bike is from when he was a teenager and my bike is a bit too tall for me, so I ride DH bike and he rides my bike. Needlessly confused yet? :)

I would love to have a cruiser. I hate leaning over to reach the handles. It hurts my back. We also bought a new seat for me recently that makes riding more comfortable because it's bigger for my, well, bigger butt. We just installed a seat on the rear of DH's (my) bike for Eve. She's riden a couple of times now and is still not sure about it. I think the helmet bothers her more than anything. She also doesn't like it when I ride ahead of them and she can't see me.

I would see if you can rent a bike for the day to try it out. I'd also suggest trying to rent a couple of different types of seats/trailers for Max. You never know what he might like best.

  • DH is/was an avid bike rider. He has almost too many to count (road bikes, mountain bikes, BMX, dual suspension, single speed, etc). I have a Kona mountain bike that I got years ago that I'm trying to sell. Once it's gone I'll be getting a cruiser since I'm also chicken of falling and I don't need all the bells & whistles. I agree with tri-reader in going to a bike shop and seeing what they have and giving them a test run.
  • try out my cruiser bike the next time you are over! You'd LOVE it!!! and it's super easy to pull the trailer with!?

I bought a cruiser a few years ago and hated it.  I thought I wanted easy peasy, but as soon as there was the littlest hill (not anything big) I couldn't power up it because you are SO upright.  And then when I tried to return it (a week later) they only gave me 40% back because it was "used".  I'm not a huge biker, so I am NEVER buying from a bike-only store again.

I turned around and went to REI, bought an intro mountain bike and have been so happy with it.  I felt like they listened to me more and most importantly to me, even if I hadn't liked it, I could return it for full refund (100% satisfaction guarantee).  They've got a wide selection- everything from awesome looking cruisers- think pink with skulls and crossbones, to hard core ultra light titanium framed road bikes.

Oddly enough, the bike situation made me apply for and get a job at REI a couple of years later- and they were just as awesome as employers as they were as a customer- and the guarantee is legit.

  • I LOVE my bike! I bought a 'town' bike last year. Its Jamis brand.  Another great brand for town bikes is Breezer. Town bikes have larger tires than road bikes but are still appropriate for roads. They also allow you to sit up straight
