that the government is encouraging the media to hype the crap out of the swine flu to distract us from something else? Seems a game they like to play... dont pay attention to the economy or the war, look at this other impending danger. Hmm...
Jut read an article that WHO upped the threat to a level 5, which means global outbreak is "imminent."

Fear tactics, IMO.
Re: Am I the only one that suspects
No that's called a service to mankind. Hopefully they will both contract a deadly strain of it and do the world a favour.?
We can only hope!!

Oh for this to come true.
I can see both sides of it, to be truthful.
In some ways, it's fear-mongering. But on the other hand, the fear tactics help scare people into being more precautious than they'd normally be. And right now we kind of need people to be more careful.
Yup, and I am all about anything that will make people wash their hands more. I mean, have you ever NOTICED how many people don't do this in public restrooms? Ew.

maybe. has anyone noticed that the news was reporting 160 deaths in Mexico, and a more recent report said only 7. Something is definitely up!

Am I the only one that suspects that scary *** sells papers/ads, and the news channels/papers exist to earn money?
I don't mind a good conspiricy theory, but I think the obvious answer is plenty cynical and makes more sense to boot. Consider: most the American public never gave a crap about most of the world's troubles anyways, and even lost interest in our wars a while ago; it has been suggested that this will worsen economic woes nationally and internationally, so its not really helping in that area; so for this to make sense we'd have to assume more big secret bad news is coming.
Um, NO. The media always hypes everything up. Which government would be responsible for telling the media to hype it up? It's the WORLD health organization making these calls, not Obama.
The media always blows things like this out of proportion. I know it's serious and people are dying, but there was a toddler that died in Houston and now everyone here is freaking out. The child wasn't even from here, he was from Mexico and was brought here to visit family and ended up going to the hospital for treatment. He didn't catch it here. If you listen to our local news you know that, if you listen to a national news you just think Houston has a true case.
This is going to take me off the OT. But in a twisted way I am OK with this!! When my husband was in Iraq last year the last thing I wanted to hear about every time I turned on the TV was lives lost. It made me worry and fret. At the same time I do think it's sad that people die every day in this war and people have lost sight of that.
Sorry...I know that's now what this post was about, but I wanted to add my two cents!
