NBR- what is your favorite US beach?

Looking for beach ideas in the US.  (Not Hawaii though...to far to fly with kiddos right now!)  Where/what is your favorite beach and tell me why!  My sister was supposed to be getting married in Cancun this summer but is feeling uneasy about traveling there now.  The only beaches I've been to are in the Caribbean and Mexico but I know there's gorgeous beaches here in the good old US of A too!  :)  Thanks!

  • I have many favorites for different reasons. I definitely think Florida's Gulf Coast beaches are amaazing.

For a wedding, I would have to vote for my own beach wedding choice, which was Honeymoon Island, Dunedin, Florida. I have bazillions of pictures, if you're interested.

    definitely interested!

  • I had Hawaiian beaches all laid out in my head!

Um, very pretty estuary/beaches in/around Charleston, SC.  The lighthouses make it so beautiful, as well.

  • My family has a place in Naples, Florida. I really like it there if you're looking for a warmer climate beach. I love the Hamptons, Block Island, Nantucket, Hyannis Port, and Cape May, to name a few, in the NE.
  • Key Largo only because that's where I got married.  Of course, that's not really a beach, it's actually a bay.

I've been to Tybee Beach and wasn't impressed, but it was also super windy and sand kept pelting up in the face.

My least favorite was Sanibel Island only because you had to wear shoes to walk anywhere on the beach because there are 8,000 shells underneath each step you take.

  • Most definintely Destin, FL. Absolutely beautiful!

  • Honeymoon Island is a great beach for a wedding if you want something quiet without 1,000 people hanging around and you don't want endless condos in the background. It's a state park, so it's very beautiful and natural. However, there are great locations for receptions nearby, so it works out fantastically.

Here's the site for the pictures. https://thebouphas.shutterfly.com/

The ceremony, wedding party, and just us pictures are at the beach.

Here's the website for more info on coordinating a wedding at Honeymoon Island. I can't say enough good things about it.

  • Have to agree with PPs, too, the Destin/Seaside area is absolutely breathtaking. And it wouldn't be as far to drive from Oklahoma. Wink

    I agree!!

  • I love York Beach in Maine.  I just love the New England Seacoast.  Granted, the water is pretty cold and takes some getting used to!  But, you can't beat it....there are so many beaches to try and so many beautiful sights to see from Maine to Cape Cod.  You can really make a great vacation out of it.
  • I love Myrtle Beach, SC. It's great for families b/c there is so much to do. It's very walkable and the beach is clean and well maintained. I think it is also a very reasonably priced area.

My "home beach" however, is OCMD (Ocean City, Md) which I love b/c it's where my family took us once a year and where I'd go with my friends. It's pricey and sorta seedy in some areas.
