Trying to Get Pregnant

vitex vs. clomid~i don't know which to try

I have read a lot of people have success w/ Vitex & I'm very tempted to try it because I like the idea of going the natural route.  However, I'm torn because if it doesn't work for me, it will mean waiting longer.  I've got Clomid sitting @ home just waiting for me to start it once AF finally shows, but I'm thinking about bailing on it this cycle & trying the Vitex.  I don't really know when to take the Vitex though.  Do you take it the whole cycle or just until O?  I've also read it takes about 3 months to work :(

Re: vitex vs. clomid~i don't know which to try

  • I'm on my second round of clomid (1st 50 mg now 100mg) and I really like it. My dr said it will also make your cycles shorter. Usually mine were annovulatory and 40 days but last was ann with 50mg Clomid but only 26 days.

Yes the clomid should shorten up my cycle as well.  Maybe I'll just see if the clomid works & after a few rounds if it doesn't, I'll try the vitex.

  • I don't have any experience with long/annovulatory cycles and I wish you the best of luck trying to regulate your cycles.

If it were me trying to make a decision I would probably go with the homeopathic one because I would like to take natural supplements as much as possible but I'd also look at the side effects of both. GL!

  • I think it would depend on how long you've been ttc. If you've been trying for a while & are ok with the risks, then I would try clomid. I didnt have any success with vitex - there is a lot of misinformation about it on the internet (especially on which part of your cycle to take it).
  • Vitex is not going to work as quickly or drastically as Clomid. If you can be patient, go with Vitex. If not, Clomid sounds like the right choice for you.
  • Vitex normally takes at least 3 months before you'll see results.  It needs to build up in your system.  Also you can't take vitex and clomid at the same time (they counter act each other) so if you were to try the vitex first and then not like it you wouldn't be able to just get on to the clomid becuase you'd still have some of the vitex in your system.  If your doctor has given you clomid and you want to get pregnant I would follow your doctors decisions unless for some reason you're not happy with him/her.

Where did you get your information on the interactions between clomid and vitex?

  • Thanks for all you imput ladies.  I think I'll try the clomid for a few cycles & see how that goes. Wishing you all luck TTC!
