Those w/ LO's that STTN...please help!

My DS has been STTN for the past 10 nights (yay!) he usually wakes once to nurse and get changed after about 6 hrs. Last night he slept 9 hrs no waking! MY boobs literally exploded, I was drenched, my shirt, sheets, everything. How do BF moms last all night? Even when he went 6 hrs I was in such pain, but 9 almost killed me. Plus I was so engorged he filled up on one side (never happens), so I had to pump the other side and got 7 oz. Holy geez, help me! Do I have to get up in the middle of the night to pump....is that my only solution?? TIA

  • Your supply will start to regulate. Don't pump in the middle of the night. You will just keep producing all that milk if you do. Do you wear a sleep nursing bra? I use one with bra pads so that I don't leak everywhere.

  • Yea for you! That's awesome (the STTN part)! My DD has slept through the night two or three times so far and I have had similar things happen. I've found that I leak a lot less and get engorged a lot less often than I did with my DS so my issues are a lot less "severe" aka annoying than they were last time. With that said, I plan to do what I did with my son...just wait it out. I don't want to wake to pump and I don't want my boobs thinking that they need to make that much milk through the night. Eventually your boobs will catch up with your LO - at least mine did. In the mean time I'd wear Lansinoh pads (the best!), sleep on a towel and make sure you have a waterproof pad on your mattress. It sucks to do all that extra laundry but in my mind it's worth the extra sleep! Good luck and enjoy your sleep :-)
