Art projects for 10 month olds?

As you can tell from my earlier post, my husband and I are trying to come up with ideas for mothers' day gifts for our moms.  Our newest idea is some sort of art project that we can then frame for our moms.  Our first thought is finger painting, but are our girls old enough to safely finger paint?  I mean, Virginia loves to do it with her food, but I don't really want to frame a food finger painting project for our moms.  Or can they draw with crayons?  Anyone have any great art project ideas for me?  Thanks!

  • They sell those little kits where you can do a handprint in the cement type of stuff and it will last forever.

  • You could paint their palms and make handprint pictures on canvas.  Red Envelope sells a kit for them - here's the link - but you could just buy supplies and do it yourself.
  • DD has been "painting" at daycare since she was about 5 months old.   Be prepared for it to end up everywhere, but it is seriously the cutest thing to watch.
