Bad News

I just received a phone cll from my nurse and they are putting me on some medicine it looks like my progesterine (sp?) level is dangerously low and that I could potentially have a miscarriage. I also was told that I have the beginning stages of cervical cancer, it is not cancer yet but I am at the LSIL. I know things happen for a reason but why me? why now?

  • Oh no! I'm sorry you got some bad news. I had very low progesterone in this pg (9.1 and the docs like to see it above 20), was put on progesterone oral meds and everything went fine.

Luckily, they caught the abnormal cells early and can keep an eye on them. I know how scary this is- good luck!!

  • Good luck! I really hope everything works out.

  • i had the beginning stages of cervical cancer too! not the hpv kind the other kind! (there is several different kinds) but they told me when i had a loop procedure (they cut out part of my cervix) that chances are it would come back during pregnancy! im sorry to hear you are going through it i know when i went through it (i was 17) scared the sh*t out of me!
  • I am sorry you are going through this! I am glad they caught both things. Low progesterone is not that uncommon and the supps are an easy fix. GL!

  • Oh my! T & P to you.
  • this happened to me with my daughter ( i found out i had cirvical cancer after i lost her brother )  and i had a fairly normal pregnancy. she was born early at 34 weeks but that didnt have to do with the cancer, they said. they probably wont do anythign about the cancer while you are pg. GL i wish you all the best!
  • Sorry to hear this but low progesterone isn't always bad..I had 13.5 when I went for my b/w at 6 weeks...they put me on progesterone supplement pills 200mg twice a day and I haven't had a problem since..GOOD LUCK!
  • This is my first post on this board but once I saw your post I knew I had to respond.

I received a phone call yesterday also stating that my progesterone(?) levels are lower than they like to see.  My doctor put me on meds right away and assured me not to worry.   Since then I've talked to several other people who have had the same result and they ended up with a healthy baby.  So...I'm holding on to hope.

I just wanted to give you that little "ray of sunshine".   I'll be thinking about you with crossed fingers!

  • I'm so sorry. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts!
  • I'm sorry sweetie - hope everything clears up. Keep your chin up.
  • Oh my gosh I'm so sorry. That's a lot of info to be given on one phone call. Sending a lot of positive thoughts your way.

  • I am so sorry your hearing all this bad news, try and stay positive (I know thats hard to do) Wishing you lots of luck, hopefully everything turns out alright! ::fingers crossed for you::
  • Don't worry about the LGSIL just yet. My pap results came back as that in January. Then 2 weeks later I had a colposcopy that came back High grade. Then 2 months later I had another pap and it came back normal.

It could regress on its own.

  • The same thing happened to my sister. During preg her paps came back irregular, thought it was "C". They continued to test throughout. At one point they thought they may need to deliver early to go ahead and address the issue. When baby was born, all was normal. They said that sometimes pregnancy can give a false positive or could make the labs look worse than they are. So no worries!! Stay positive.. it may just be the baby!!
  • Just to ease your mind a bit, LSIL is very common (I had it), and while they are considered pre-cancerous cells, it does not mean you are in the beginning stages of cancer.  It means that if left unmonitored and untreated the cells have the potential to become cancer.  It's a good thing that your doctor found the cells!

I know it's super scary - but try to relax the best you can.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  • While I have no experience with the cervical cancer issue, I did have low progesterone.  I was on supplements when I found out I was pregnant.  My levels were still low...14.6.  They dropped to 12.1 and my doctor doubled my dose.  2 days later, I was above 20.

    Good luck!

  • Don't worry, babe. I had my yearly pap in Sept come back as abnormal. After having several colposcopies and biopsies, I ?found out I had Severe Dysplasia CIN level 3 which is the highest it can get pre-cancer. I was sure this was it! So scared and had never heard of this kind of thing.

Well, in December, I had the LEEP procedure done, and my margins came back clear. They told me I could start trying for a baby in Feb and here I am almost 12 weeks pregnant! And my pap from my first OB appointment several weeks ago, came back Negative! So PLEASE just know, there is so much they can do if it comes to high grade even actual cancer. Right now where you are, it is totally something they would probably just watch and see anyways even if you weren't pregnant. So think positive thoughts!

Also, wanted to tell you my progesterone dropped from 22.5 to 14.9, which freaked me out! Then they tested it 2 days later and it was 16.6. They told me not to worry and I have been fine so far. So don't worry!

  • I can't believe they would tell you over the phone that you have the beginning stages of cervical cancer. ?That's just seems innappropriate to me.?

I am on prometrium (probably what they're putting you on). ?After only 1 week of beign on it my progesterone went from 18 all the way up to 39 so going on it is a good thing! ?As for that, take a deep breath and know the meds will do thier job the best they can. ?As for the cancer, I will keep you in my prayers. ?Take it a day at a time.?
