TTC after 35

Talking to the RN ( a bit long)

Me: Should I come in for a repeat loss check now that this has happened twice?

RN: Let me call you back

RN calls 6 hours later

RN: Doctor says only come in if you bleed through a pad within an hour.

Me: ok thanks for that information again (we talked about that yesterday). So I think there is some confusion about what I was asking. I'm38 and was wondering if I should I schedule an appointment to try to find out why I've had 2 chemical pgs? Or do I need to wait after one more month of trying which will be 6 months of TTC?

RN: Oh well I didn't ask the doctor that but why don't you just wait another month and oh, Dr. XX is going on leave so if things don't work out next month you can schedule an appt for August.

Me: Really August?

RN: Yes

Me: Can I see another doctor in the practice?

RN: I guess you could do that

Me: ::Bangs head with phone:: ok thanks.

::wonders did I just really have that conversation::

GRRRRRRRRR.....that sounds so frustrating!  I would definitely see if you could get in before August with a different Dr.......no sense in wasting more precious time!

    Sending ::::happy thoughts::::: your way!

Are you kidding me?  Does she not listen at all?  I would just go ahead and schedule an appt with your dr. (or another one in the practice depending on exactly when your dr. is going on leave).

I think that's a great plan Holly,  I'm going to schedule an appointment for one month from now. That way it will just after the end of next cycle, they can either tell me that yes I'm pg or we can get some tests started. That way I'll be covered.

I like that plan...just call and make an appt.

and are you sure you do not live in Albuquerque???  I have had numerous conversations just like that!  HaHa!

I agree.  You have to be your own advocate in stuff like this.  I just do the research and tell them what I want to do.  I'd make the appointment, tell the doctor your concerns and tell him what you want to be tested for and I bet s/he'll agree and do it (if not at least you'll get to have the conversation yourself).  I'd also prepare for the appointment by doing research and writing down a list of questions (I always get nervous and forget what I wanted to ask if I don't).  good luck!

    Wow.

I had a doc who was kind of like this.  I liked her, but her support staff was really tough to deal with.  I ended up changing doctors, mostly because I could never get ahold of her and her support staff wasn't helpful at all.

I think holly's idea is good too!

Ugh.  So annoying.  If I were you I'd call back and ask to speak to the doctor, not the nurse.   And if you don't get the feedback you need, perhaps it's time to find another doctor with my customer service skills.  Sorry.

Sounds like it is definitely time to take things in your own hands. I think she had way too many other things on her mind; move on!

How frustrating! ?I had similar problems with the nurse at my OB's office. I had to call several times and request RPL testing after m/c #2. ?The doctor only ordered a few tests at that time, and I wish I had been even more insistent that a full panel was done.

Your might try leaving a message for the doctor directly to bypass the clueless nurse. ?Medical literature now encourages RPL work-ups after 2 losses instead of 3, as used to be the case. ?An appt. w/a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) might be helpful if your OB isn't receptive.

This site lists some of the tests performed and their prices, although insurance usually covers most of these, with the possible exception of genetic karotyping ($400 per person in my area).

D'OH! How frustrating. Call an RE- they are in the business of getting you pregnant. OB's really only care when you already are.

Oh my goodness. What a frustrating conversation. I would totally just schedule an appointment with the office staff and skip by that clueless woman!

I've started faxing my questions to the office so I can ask exactly what I want to know or have done...
