Moisture inside pump tubing...

I have NO idea how it happened... but when I went to use my pump this morning... I found moisture in the tubing.  I know you're not suppose to wash the tubing or get it wet.  Has anyone had this happen before?  Do I need to buy new tubing?  Did I do something wrong?

Re: Moisture inside pump tubing...

  • Mine had a little and I remember reading somewhere that is was fine.  Sorry I can't remember where...
  • Loading the player...
  • there could have been some water in the 'in spout' on on your pump connecter thingy... (techical term, I know). Or, sometimes there's just moisture that comes from the air that gets concentrated when pumping (forms beads in the tube). Go outside, swing it around your head like a lasso and it should dry it out pretty quick.

Bonus points if a neighbor sees you ;)

  • i think its ok. depends on the pump u have. i used to steam mine.

  • its totally normal. run the pump for about 5 min at the highest setting after you pump with just the tubing.
  • It happens all the time with me, if the pump parts are wet when you start pumping the moisture will get into the tubing.

Run the pump with the tubes on for 5-10 minutes after you're done and it will dry them out.

    ditto

    medela recommends sterilizing your tubing.

    This.

Exactly what my pump instructions said.

  • Happened to me once or twice.  The lasso trick that Janessa described works, as well as letting it run for a while to be sure the lines are clear.
  • My instructions said to steam sterilize the pump tubing or to boil it in hot water to clean so I'm sure it is okay to get it wet.  All the other advice to get out the moisture should work.  After boiling mine, I hang them so they drip dry.

    ditto!

  • Condensation happens - I think its perfectly fine.

Also, are you sure you're not supposed to get the tubing wet? For my medela PISA, I remember sanitizing the tubing in the beginning once per their instructions.

  • Thanks Ladies!!  You're right... my parts were wet when I started pumping.  My bad.  I turned the pump on for 20 min... and its all clear again.  I'll read the instructions again, but I'm pretty sure it said don't wash the tubing.
