Anyone Else's LO Outgrow Car Seat by 8 Months?

My car seat is part of the Chicco Cortina KeyFit 30 Travel System and I will truly miss the convenience of it...DD's feet are just starting to hang over the edge and the straps are on the highest setting they can go.  The seat maxxes out at 30 inches or 30 lbs., whichever comes first and DD's length is more the issue than her weight.  I was hoping that she could use this seat until she turned 1 yr. but I don't think we're going to make it.

Anyone else's LO outgrow the car seat this early, if this is even considered early??

  • If you're talking about an infant seat, I don't think thats early at all. We moved DS around 6 months b/c he was getting big for the seat, also he seemed annoyed to be in that position. He prefers the bigger seat b/c he can sit up more.

  • My DD still meets the requirements for an infant seat but I moved her to the convertible around 6 1/2 months because she was squished in it and I got tired of lugging her around in it.

  • Yes, it's an infant seat.  Sorry I should have specified.

I agree, DD gets really pissed when I put her in it because the position isn't good for her anymore.  She arches her back, pushing her belly up like she wants out.

  • I have the same car seat, and we switched it for the convertible seat when she was 6 1/2 months old. She still hadn't met the weight requirements, but I was getting tired of lugging her around in it. She was getting way too heavy. That isn't early at all. Make the switch. At first, its a PITA especially since we could take her everywhere, and she could just fall asleep in her infant seat. But she is much more comfortable in the convertible.

  • That's not early at all. We used it until 9mo when DS was 29.5 inches (23 lb) and just too heavy for me to carry anymore.?

    ?

  • We are switching now because at her rate of weight gain, Alyssa will be too big in another 2-4 weeks (the only reason its as long as 4 weeks is because she was sick a lot of this month so didn't gain any weight)
  • My carseat only goes up to 22 lbs, so we are just about to move ds to the new one.

  • DS technically still fits in his carrier but I swtiched him out because it was getting to heavy for me to carry.

  • if you're talking the infant seat, we switched over around 7 mos--it just got to be too much to carry;  so, if you got another month out of it I think that's great.

  • My 9 month old is still (barely) within height/weight limit of his infant seat, but he was very uncomfortable in it. He kept trying to sit up. We just changed over to the convertible last weekend and so far so good.

  • Wow I can't believe you made it till 8 months! We had to change around 6 months b/c he was to big and to heavy to carry around.  The only time it isn't convienent is when DS is asleep and I have to take him out of the seat to bring him in the house, he does not travel well being picked up!
  • My DS outgrew his Graco snug ride at 6 months old. He was not at the weight limit but I could no longer lift it and he was getting very tall for it so we switched.

  • My son outgrew his Keyfit 30 by 6 months, but he's HUGE.

  • We had to switch out of the Baby Trend infant carrier at 4 MONTHS! He was too long for it already but he was nowhere close to the weight restriction.
