Now that we have kids, what do you think of bfing in public?

Before DS I thought you just cover up and no big deal. I have since discovered that covering up is hot and not always comfy for you and the baby. I now wish open bfing was accepted in our country, it is so natural to me that modesty would never cross my mind. I just want to feed my kid!

Yup, would much rather whip it out and feed DD without worrying about covering up but I've noticed that people get kind of squirmish. Thank goodness for hooter hiders!!!

I agree-I really wish it was more acceptable here! Everyone is all about how great nursing is for baby but Heaven forbid you whip out a boob in public.

I don't have a problem with it at all, but I can understand how it can make others uncomfortable. ?I don't mind covering up or packing a bottle instead. ?It's not so big of an?inconvenience?for me. ?

I am EXTREMELY modest! While I was in the hospital after having DS I even made my mom leave the room while nursing!!! .... I am since stopped BFing one of the reasons being that I will NOT BF in public even if I was covered up, people still know what I am doing and I am not comfortable with that.

I often think about how much easier BFing would be if I lived in Europe. It is such a pain here. I hate having to go sit by myself somewhere to BF when I am with extended family, and haven't even tried BFing in public. Ergh!

I don't think I'd ever be comfortable not covering up, but it is a pain. And DS doesn't love being covered either.

Definitely agree! I always use a blanket to cover up but I feel so awkward & usually end up dropping the blanket or something! I wish people wouldn't get so worked up over it & just accept it for what it is. I think trying to cover up just draws more attention esp. when ds is hungry & starts crying when I'm taking too long! We live in europe part of the year & bfing in public is protected by law here. I still feel like I need to cover up but at least I know it's my right BF where/ when I want to.

I used to be modest but it is so hard to keep covered and it gets hot. I havn't had to deal with BF in public yet but I agree I have never thought it was a big deal to see women BF I wish others and I wish others would accept it as well

I get too flustered to nurse in public. I always just pump a bottle before we leave or go in between feedings. It's such a pain in the a$$.

Ugh, I am on my 2nd child and still not comfy with it. I have a hooter hider and have nursed ds in public a few times, as long as family members or friends were with me. But he hates anything covering him up and flails around so much, it just draws more attention to me! So most of the time I nurse him in the car.

BF is protected by law in most states in the U.S. as well.

I usedto be super modest - having a baby changed that. I do try to cover up some in public - mostly to avoid nipple flashing. Kiddo is also very easily distracted while nursing so a cover helps with that.

I hate covering up. I remember noticing a woman BFing in the Chicago airport who didn't cover up and thinking, I bet she's European! Now I warn guests at my house that I'm very European about BFing and if they don't want to see it then they should look away. DD keeps me covered for the most part anyway.

BF is protected by law in most states in the U.S. as well.

We live in MA & the law was only just passed earlier this month! I never realized that it wasn't protected under law until I heard it on the news a few weeks ago. I can't believe it took this long....

I agree completely! The last few times I have covered up while feeding her in public she has gotten super hot and sweaty. Poor baby, she just wants to eat her lunch!

My modesty is gone. I use a cover in public, but if I didn't have one with me for some reason, I just wouldn't care. I am also european about it at my house. lol

i haven't actually BF in public yet. i BF Liam at daycare every day, but that's just in front of other women and babies, so i really don't care. i'm going to have to BF him in the airport and on the plane when he and I fly to visit my parents next month... and i'm really not looking forward to it. i'm sure it will go fine, and i don't really care if anyone sees my boob, but we'll see how i feel about it once i actually do it...

I know it makes other people incredibly uncomfortable, so I don't bf in public. I'll only bf in the same room as company, covered up, if they say they're okay with it; otherwise I'll go to a different room. It's a bit of a shame, but, at the same time, I feel more comfortable when I'm not making other people squirm.

I nurse in public all of the time. I don't think I would get anything done otherwise. I don't care what anyone else thinks. I don't know them.
