was reported. A 23 month old in Texas. It is scary. I was stuck on a train that would not move under a tunnel, jam packed with people. It seems when you are aware, you notice all the coughing and nose blowing. Kind of freaking me out. As the advice to pregnant woman and actually anyone was to avoid large groups. Well each day I'm on a jam packed train with strangers. Not much you can do. It's scary.

Re: First swine flu death in US
Baking Blog
apparently it all started in a huge US owned pig farm in Mexico who are constantly getting cited for health code violations. One of the first ways it got here was from a group of catholic school kids in Queens, NY who went to Mexico on spring break. That's why there are so many cases in NY.
I just saw the article on CNN. It is just sad.
Wow! Very scary!
I hope nobody has Swine Flu in Disney World next week... not going to be able to avoid crowds there.

It's been identified in many states not just NY however NY has the most cases. From CDC website:
confirmed cases
See: World Health Organization
WOW, 6 cases in TX! I wish they would tell us WHERE in Tx! Too scary!
There are two people in MGH Boston with it but the CDC won't announce it so it's not "official". I think they are trying not to panic people. The Infectious Diseases department confirmed the cases and staff and visitors to that floor were all given meds and they reported it to the CDC but they won't announce it.
BTW, I don't work there so I'm not breaking any laws/codes of conduct or anything.
I'm in Western NY and there have been 5 suspected cases in my county. sigh. Thankfully I don't get out in crowds too often and don't plan to - but still.
I'm going to ask my OB about it tomorrow at my appointment.
I dont have a commute yet but will soon (in process of moving) and i will go from a 5 minute cab ride to a 1 hour commute.. i'm not looking forward to being on a train for 30 minutes! it seems like everyone is always sick on the train and now you have to be more cautious then ever

What is really scary is that so far it's just people who have been in Mexico who are getting sick. We haven't even begun to see the people they've infected yet.
AND, even if I don't get sick and I end up OK, I highly doubt they will have this under control by August, so I am TERRIFIED the LO will get sick
I hate this ....
I just looked it up. There have been 55 pediatric deaths so far this year due to the flu... and only one of those was the swine flu. No one got panicked over the other 54.
I just heard on the news this morning (I live in Orlando) that there *might* be a case from Disney. They are trying to confirm it. Hopefully it isn't that!!!
that is so sad. This whole thing is scary.
They have two people they are testing in Orlando but no confirmed cases. I'm going to be at the beach next week an hour outside of Orlando so I'm hoping it's just a false alarm. We're going to watch the shuttle launch, so I too will be in the midst of the big crowds.
I heard that every flu season kills thousands of people. You don't hear that much about it though. Just keep washing your hands.
I can't imagine being on the "T" and having that happen... scary!
Three cases have been confirmed within a 20-mile radius of me here in San Francisco - in Marin and Santa Clara counties. And we have A LOT of Mexicans who have recently traveled to Mexico as well as other people, too.
As an extra precaution I went to my local drug store yesterday and bought out almost all of their hand-sanitizing lotions because Lord knows they might be sold out soon. I keep one in my purse and use it before every meal and after I use the potty (after washing hands) or touching any "gross" public surfaces (hand rails on stairs, etc). And I keep a face mask in my purse... silly, I know - but should I be in a confined place with sick people, I'll slap that sucker on. You might want to carry one around as an extra precaution, too, especially while riding the T or any other public transit.
I would usually shrug this stuff off but I feel compelled to be extra cautious now...
