I caught a glimpse of an article today that said that there are hundreds of students ill in new york. They think this is a result of a Mexico spring break trip.
And that got me to thinking about spring break while still in high school. No one went to mexico or Aruba (Natalie Holloway). A few seniors went to Florida. There were also a few who did a habitat for humanity trip, but it wasn't to a party destination.
Did you ever do spring break in high school? I always thought that was more of a college thing.
Re: WDYT of school spring breaks to other countries?
I'm with you--that should be a college thing....or even post-college. High school is way too young to be responsible.

Notes:
I did, but it was to work in an orphanage in Nicaragua junior year and I went for a fun trip to Australia senior year. Both were well chaperoned though.
ETA: letting a bunch of HS kids loose by themselves is stupid.
I thought those kids went with their parents and were siblings...this is not true?
there are two kids in Spencer, MA who went on a trip with their parents who are suspected of having the s.f.
i went to ft. lauderdale with my friends both my junior & senior years in high school.
i came back the 2nd day of my senior year trip because my boyfriend was in a car accident with 4 other boys on their way to panama city and was severely injured. one of them was killed. out of the 6 girls on the trip, i was the only one who paid with my own money & was not reimbursed at all.
yes i'm bitter.
I didn't read the whole article so I don't know if this was a family type vacation or a party vacation. After the Natalie Holloway story, I remember being floored that parents sent their kids on a trip to aruba where they were not really supervised. To me, that is just asking for trouble. My point was why do some high schools even offer these kind of trips and better yet why do parents go for this? It's crazy enough what college kids do. No need to do this at a younger age.
Getting off my soapbox.
Sorry to hear about your classmate. A high school classmate of mine died our senior year as well, but he was driving under the influence.
Now be honest with us. What kind of no good were you girls up to while away on spring break? I doubt you sat by the camp fire and told ghost stories.
we got up and put on our swimsuits as soon as we woke up, walked across the street to the beach, laid on our backs, flipped over, laid on our tummies, repeat. occasionally cooled off in the ocean. walk back across the street to the condo for lunch, repeat morning. shower, shop & out to dinner nightly.
No drunken parties? No hook ups? No wet t-shirt contests?
nope. sorry to ruin the fantasy.
I thought the kids in NY had gone on a family vacation to Mexico.
Not that I think I would allow it (and my parents never would have) but Nataile Holloway had just graduated from hs so she was going to college in a few months so she would be on her own at that point. Everytime I hear anything on that story I sitll cant' believe they never found her or can't find enough to arrest the guy they think was involved--so sad. I can't believe they made a lifetime movie about it either....
