I chose my ob/gyn based on a recommendation from a friend of mine. He delivered her baby and she said he was great! Her exact words were "i wouldnt let anyone else deliver my babies!" My first visit w/him was for my annual last Sept. He was great and spent 40 minutes talking with me, I just thought he had a strange attitude.... plus i had to wait in the waiting room over an hour before i was seen (and that was after having the office call me and reschedule my appt twice). THe receptionist is really nice but the nurse has an attitude problem (IMO)... i can site specific examples if you are curious.
i'm thinking its time for a switch... i am leaning more towards an office with a CNM on staff, but also a small practice with preferrably only 1 MD...... and maybe a female? or at least a female midwife.......
anyone else been in this situation? I feel like i should give him another shot b/c my friend swears by him, and i am thinking maybe they are nicer to their OB patients? idk i am torn.....
TIA and sorry for the long rant!
Re: Time for a new doctor? ::long::
You are going to be dealing with the nurses and the receptionists a lot. If they are already making you upset, would you want them to be your point of contact while you're PG?
I switched doctors from a smaller practice with 1 doctor, 2 pas, and a bunch of nurses because I would wait in the waiting room an hour + to get in when I had an appointment. It was horrible.
My new office has like 10 doctors that I have heard lots of good things about all of them. I like all but one of the nurses on staff (a rude phone person).
You have to be comfortable....I would change if I were you.
I am actually setting up an new doctor as well. My doctor's office just put me through hell and all I can think that if something goes wrong and they act like that I couldn't handle it. My cousin is referring me to hers and she loves her. So fingers crossed hopefully I will too.
Do what you think is best. You have to do what makes you happy and you have to feel comfortable with your doctor.
Hey! you are in my neck of the woods :-) what practice do you go to? Where can you deliver?
Duh, I didn't notice you're in Oviedo! Emmerjill, who do you go to?
I was going to Dr. Patel in Kissimme for years, but the wait time killed me every time. Now I go to Loch Haven OBGYN on Princeton and they work with the Florida Hospitals.
I am nuts and can't remember the name of the practice...I go to a midwife but her practice doesn't deliver so I want to find a new one now so I don't have to change.
Hey I replied above. What hospital do you work for? I work for Adventist Health Systems/Florida Hospital and many people I know have delivered there. The South Campus (downtown) is brand spanking new and they have an awesome peds and nicu unit if needed. So far I am VERY happy with the practice. They keep my appointments, get me in on time, and most of the staff is awesome.

This. Find somewhere where the staff and Dr. make you feel comfortable and are willing to answer ANY question, as silly as it may feel. It makes a huge difference!
I work at FH Altamonte! Small world! I don't really want to deliver where I work, although every other person i work with has delivered there and loved it. I am torn right now b/w Winnie Palmer and Winter Park. the NICU at Winnie is amazing (hopefully dont need that but you never know) and the ammenities are great, but i also like the smaller more intimate feel of WPMH..... i know i pretty much need to figure out where i want to deliver and then pick a MD/CNM that goes there.....What do you do for AHS?

I work AHS-IS at the help desk. I used to work for Florida Hospital's help desk. Whey they're still separate I don't understand.
I know a lot of people that have delivered at the various Florida Hospitals and I am really comfortable with the care level there. I really like the Loch Haven office and the fact that they have so many doctors, one is always in one of the hospitals I think they said. Do you have FHHS insurance or are you under your DH's insurance? I have FHHS now, but I had Cigna before through DH, and I will have United when/if I stop working at AHS when I go back on his plan. I had to find someone that had all three at the time...very strange to find that.
I felt weird once about going to a FH for something, like when I was taken in by ambulance. I was terrified someone would know me or see me that I knew all hooked up on my gurney and all. I know employees can have their records flagged to watch for abuse too, so you can be pretty sure your information is safe in the hands of only those that need it.
