Success after IF

When is the glucose test normally done, do you think I will have to repeat?

I had to take my 1 hr glucose test at around 16 weeks.  I failed that one but lucky for me, I passed the 3 hr.

My issue is that I am only (almost) 18 weeks.  Most people would not even taken the test by this point.

So, will I have to repeat it down the line??  My reasoning is that maybe it is something that starts at a certain point in pg - which is why they test at a certain time.

Just because I pass now, does not mean that I would pass if I took it later, right?

I would rather just do the 3 hour again at a later point, and not the screening again.  Why drink the crap 2x

Don't get me wrong - I DO NOT want to drink that stuff at all, but think I might have to.

Words of wisdom?

  • Found this - may or may not be the answer

In women at high risk of developing gestational diabetes, a normal screening test result is followed up with another screening test at 24-28 weeks for confirmation of the diagnosis.

  • I think they are done between 24-28 weeks.  I took mine early because I had symptoms and then I retook it again to be safe.  I would retake it at least for peace of mind.

  • Yes, you will most likely have to do it again.  I was tested at around 15 weeks.  Luckily I passed the one hour, but my doctor confirmed I will be doing it again at 24 weeks.  I'm not sure about doing the 3 hour right away instead of both.  It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor.  Good luck!

  • My RE had me take one before she released me at around 10w.  I passed the 1 hour.  My OB had me take one at 26w and I passed the 1 hour again.  I would think that you will probably have to re-take it, but maybe if you talk to them they will let you just do the 3 hour.  GL!!

  • It is on the list of questions for my next visit - but that visit is not for another 2 weeks :(

The only reason why I would want to go straight to the 3 hour is so that I don't have to do the one hour only to have to go back the next week to do the 3 hour.
