Preemies

We qualified for PT today

Boy, oh boy.  I am actually glad that we will have some guidance for what to work with Logan on but it was REALLY hard to hear that our son was acting more like a 3-4 month old!  He is almost 5 months adjusted and I thought he was hitting 5 month milestones.  It just drummed up all of those preemie mommy guilt feelings!  Especially since she said that the last time she evaluated him he was on a monitor and meds and most preemies when they come home are beyond that.  I knew that we had kind of been stuck in this "trying to sit/hating tummy time" funk but I didn't realize that he was delayed for his adjusted age!  I guess I feel like I have let him down again by not working with him more or making him do tummy time when he is whining.  Oh well, it will be good for us!  Hopefully he will be catching up more quickly now!  Thanks for reading...I knew you'd understand where I was coming from.

Re: We qualified for PT today

  • Do not feel guilty. You got him help and I'm very happy that he did. I'm still trying to get EI for mine. We have the eval next week and I'm really hoping that he qualifies. PT will be great for you LO and before you know it he will be running all over the house and you going crazy chasing after him.?

  • Don't beat yourself up, momma. It happens to a LOT of preemies. The reason they're so proactive in watching our little guys.. it happens.

And you don't want to torture him with tummy time.. the idea is it's work.. but not miserable.

The PT will show you lots of tricks to get him on his tummy w/o torturing him. It won't all be fun, but it shouldn't be horrible, either.

  • I know its tough to hear but being proactive is the best way to handle the situation. Our PT gives me great advice and is also an excellent support system for me. I hope you find it helpful!
