What to pack for early hospital admission (PIH)

I was somewhat threatened with being admitted to the hospital today.  My BP has been on the high side for a while, (140/90 +/-) but today it was 150/100 at the doctor's office.  If I had had even a tiny bit of protein in my urine, the doctor would have sent me directly to the hospital.  Anyway, they drew my blood to run a PIH panel, and I have to go back tomorrow.  My question is related to what to take with me.  I wanted to go ahead and pack a bag just in case.  Do any of you have recommendations on what to take, at least to start?  I've got an idea of what I would take for delivery and recovery, but I hadn't thought about hanging out in the hospital before delivery for observation.

  • Ruh roh!  Sorry to hear this!  Can you bring a laptop?  I would love that if I had to go in early.  What about a stash of magazines and some books?  IPOD?  Travling DVD player for movies, Netflex DVD's, etc?  Clothes-wise, I'm all cotton at this point.  T-shirts, cropped cotton pants, leggings, anything comfy they might let you wear to feel more at home.  Good luck!
  • Loading the player...
  • bring comfy clothes...I wore yoga pants and tank tops during the day and my regular jammies for bedtimes.

Bring your laptop especially if it has a dvd player, books, puzzles, deck of cards.

If you know you are gonna be there for awhile before delivering I would bring picktures of the family.  I had a private room and my entire room was decorated with all kinds of things...I was there for a month before I delivered.

  • My laptop was my lifeline when I was admitted for BP issues. Other than that, my family brought movies and magazines to entertain me, but I mostly spent time on the computer. The hospital had internet access so that was lucky.

  • I highly reccommend bringing your pillow(s) and towels :)

  • Def stuff to entertain you..laptop, books, magazines. I would also bring a robe, slippers, your own toiletries, flip flops for the shower.
