Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How many words does your 12/13 month old say?

I'm just curious. My pedi said she was impressed with DS. He can say Mama, Dada, ball, no, more, blu (dogs name), baby, hello. I'm not trying to brag or anything, totally just curious.

Re: How many words does your 12/13 month old say?

  • He says no, baba (bottle/sippy cup), and Mama.  However, he uses Mama to mean me and also to mean milk.

  • Mama, Dada, Hi There, Uh Oh, nana (banana), bye are the true words he says.

He makes sounds for other words that are consistent so we know what he's saying but he doesn't say the true word.

  • I don't know.  I've always been kind of confused by how you tell.

DD says stuff like mama, dada, and kitty which we're sure about but then at her one year appointment the pedi counted all these associational sounds that it wouldn't have occurred to me to count.

Like she makes this sound like "Waaaaaaaaaaaaa-thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" kind of like a curious seagull being strangled when she points at something.  This apparently counts as "what's that."  I would never have pegged that.

  • He says Mama, Dada, Baba (bottle) Car, Truck, Nana (banana), Ooma (what his grandma is called), ball, bye, hi and if you ask him what a sheep, cow, and horse say, he responds correctly.

  • Mama
    Dada
    Woof-Woof (any animal)
    Nana (any kind of food)
    Nose
    Toe
    Eye
    Baby
    Door
    Me
    Ball
    Hi
    Bye

  • He says ball, guitar, and uh-oh (is that a word?). Yes, guitar is an odd one but he is obsessed with his daddy's guitars. We think he's starting to use mama and dada as actual identifying words and not just sounds, it's hard to tell sometimes. He understands other words but doesn't say them.
  • None.  He makes sounds but nothing yet to form a word or associate with a person place or thing.  Like if he's pissed he says MOMOMOMOMOMOMOM over and over again but he's not calling me mom.  And it doesn't sound like I would say, "Hey mom, I'm pissed."  It's just noise.
  • He says

    Mamad

    dada

    byebye

    duck

    hi

    baba (bottle)

    dogeee

he also says what's this? when he holds out a toy or points to something.

    uh oh

    no

  • She says 14 words. (I have been keeping track) ;-)
  • at 13 months Nate was saying Mama, Dada, Dog, Balle, Our dog's name Belle, bird, cat, hi ,bye, juice, boobie, more, this, that, uh oh, no, and thank you ( that he says TA TOOO).

He is much more talkative than my 3 year old was at that age!

  • She says dada, dog, and uh oh.  I think she might be trying to say turtle as well, but I can't tell.  It's hard, because dada and dog sound the same, and turtle kinda sounds the same as dada and dog.
  • mama, dada, thank you, nightnight, nana (banana). sometimes it sounds like she says "i got it". she says something when she runs after the dog but it doesn't really sound like dog or cody (the dog's name). and when she is eating she'll say "mmmmmm". i don't know if that counts though.
  • She talks a blue streak, but I have no idea what she is saying. :)

  • My 14 month old only says dada, hi, shoe, uh oh, and no. Uh Oh was really the only thing he said at 12 months.
  • mom

    da-dee

    dog

    hi

    bye

    hey

    thank you

    tickle (this is soooo cute!!)

    Ka (for her cousin)

    yes

    no

I think that's all of them.  It seems like she's adding a word a week right now.

  • Dada and Mama. We think he might say juice which is kind of funny because he doesn't get juice but my DD does.

  • my DD only babbles... no words yet.
  • ball, dog, cat, cow, moo, baa, lalalala, mama, dada, zach, nana(for nursing), night night, bye bye, baby, go round, light, fan, hi, that? (he makes it a question and points at everything), all done, Yeah, and No.

Thank you, yeah, mama, da-dee, nana, aunt joyce ("aunt ja"), her name, uh-oh, bubbles, stop, eat, up, out, that, milk, and mmmmm! (is that a word?)

    oh, and "all done!"

  • He says: Dada, Mama, Bah-bah (bye-bye), ba-ba (bottle), whatta (what's that); hah-tah (light). That's it. But my son is not very vocal at all. So I'm impressed that he speaks at all.
  • Hi, kitty, juice, baba (bottle or sippy), and bye bye-these are within the last couple of weeks.  No mama or dada yet.

  • I updated her baby book at 13 months, and had a list of 21 words and 6 animal sounds.
  • It depends on how you count words...

DS says mama, dada, vroom-vroom, no, and yes/yeah almost every day.  He says hi/hello, bye/buh-bye/good bye, cup, and Bob frequently.  He has said at least half a dozen other words once or twice, but I personally don't think they count until he uses them on a semi-regular basis.

  • Mama...when he is really irritated or hurt.?

Everything else on earth is dada. ?

I swear he said duck once, never to be heard again. ?

He does follow one step directions and gets excited about books so I know it is just a matter of time!?

  • Funny enough, DD seems to have gone through a bit of a vocab regression (since starting daycare).  She used to say tons of words, but now only has a few that she is consistent with (and otherwise she babbles constantly, so I know when the words do come again I'll be in trouble).  Right now she says yeah, dad, dog, Bern (the dog's name), bird, & that....oh, she also says my parent's dogs names (Gus & Emma), and MASH...yes the tv show.  We watch it every day, and she knows the theme song!
