Why is it necessary? I mean...seriously. And to make matters worse, why do the offenders always talk really loud and about nothing at all? At my appt today, I had to hear about this lame girl's high cell phone bill (I can help you with that!), her husband's desire for an AK47 (hey, I know what he can do with it!), and mounds of trivial other things. It's just an annoyance that should be stopped.
Re: Phone usage in OB waiting room
HATE that, Jennifer.
My OB's office also has a sign asking patients to not use a cell phone. In fact, the medical building has signs to not use it at indoors in hallways. The only way I'd use the phone would be if something was wrong and I'd ask if I could use the doctor's office to call my husband. Hopefully I'll never have to do that.

haha That sucks!
At least she wan't discussing her nether regions or any other OBGYN-associated issue... that would have been hilarious, though.

how bout this one -
last time i was home visiting my mom, was in motherhood trying on clothes, and the chick in the next fitting room was on SPEAKERPHONE with her friend. and since the girl was busy trying on clothes and couldn't hold a conversation at the same time, her friend got bored or something on the phone and decided to start SINGING! (umm, did it not occur to either one of them to continue the chat later?!) then the friend started telling the girl about some guy they knew who either had the same name as or was the person wanted by police for his involvement in a shooting that had happened the day before.
i hurried up and got dressed and told my mom & sis, quite loudly, "let's get out of here. i've had enough of this annoying blitch on her cell phone." i know she heard me, and i didn't care!
I always wonder why people want everyone hearing their personal conversations. Sometimes people talk about things that I would not want strangers knowing about me.
On a similar note. I was sitting at the OB during my Glucose test yesterday and there was a couple fighting about money ($35 to be exact) right there in the doorway. She actually stood in the doorway while he was outside and they argued back and forth.
Domestically produced semi-automatic AK-47s are legal within the United States, although some states/cities still have restrictions on them. Most states allow you to own automatic weapons that were registered before the ban was enacted. You just have to pay a $200 Federal Excise Tax, and you have to get a signature from a law enforcement official, like a Sheriff or judge.
But back on topic, I keep managing to have an appointment around the same time as someone who uses speakerphone and moves the phone back and forth between their ear and their mouth. The last time I couldn't hear DH talking to me over her, so I very loudly commenting about it. She gave me a dirty look but left the waiting room.
