Re: for those of you getting snap and go strollers

  • I'm getting the Baby Trend one as well as the Baby Trend Flex Loc infant carseat to snap into it.
  • Loading the player...
  • We're getting a SnugRide 32 car seat and consider both Baby Trend and Graco's Snugrider (not compatible with all infant seats). In the end, I heard more good things about the Graco than the Baby Trend, but they felt very similar in store and I think you can't really go wrong with either of those.
  • My son was out of his infant seat and into a safer Britax when he was about 7 months old, so I'm glad I never got one of those.  It's kind of a waste, you won't be able to use them long at all.  They look neat because they're easy to use though.

While I think this is a valid point, I think it totally depends on just how fast baby grows, how much room you have in your trunk, and what seat you get. The SnugRide 32 will last till baby's 32 lbs (likely up to 1 year), so I'll get more use out of my stroller frame than if I got a seat that only went to 22 lbs. Also, the travel systems are so heavy and bulky, they weren't for me, personally. Do you know what car seat you're getting, OP?

  • Graco SnugRide 32 and Graco Snap n Go.

Graco 32 car seat lasts longer then most infant car seats that only to up to 20 pounds.

While this is good in theory you will never be able to lug your infant in a car seat once they are over 15 pounds....trust me. DS was 16 lbs when we took him out of his and I was seriously out of breath every day after lifting him in his 9 pound seat.

  • I got a used (perfect condition) Graco snugride infant seat and plan to buy a compatible stroller.  That way Im not paying big $$$ for the part that only lasts a little while.

I know everyone has their own opinion. Mine is that a snap and go is only $50 and will be money well spent when I dont have to wake up my baby out of the carseat and can just snap into the snap and go easily. I am taking the advice of other mom's I know and baby bargains and not buying a stroller until I've had my baby a little while and know what both our needs are. Plus travel systems can be very heavy and bulky and the economical snap and go's are lightweight and easy to use/compatible with most car seats.

While I agree with you on how long you use the infant seat (for me it 6 months with each kid, I don?t care what the weight limit was, it was time to not be in a portable seat anymore), I totally DISAGREE on the snap-n-go being a waste, I loved having it and would actually have it on my must have list for new parents. They are so light, thus super easy to get in and out of the car, which is a bonus as you recover from having the baby. The basket was huge, unlike many regular strollers, which was really nice for hitting the supermarket etc. It is much less bulky than a regular stroller or travel system which makes navigating the mall, sidewalks etc a breeze. AND, most important for me, it allowed me not to be tied to a "travel system". I wanted a different long term stroller than the brand of infant car seat we wanted, and this allowed me to have the best of both worlds.

To the original poster, I have no idea what brand we got. I got the only one that came in black at the time (this was 4 years ago) and was compatible with our car seat. I am sure any of them would be great.

Good point about toting: I don't plan to actually use the carrier to carry around my little boy after he reaches a certain weight limit, but using the stroller frame for up to a full year will be fantastic.  (Esp. since we were given a second-hand jogger and umbrella stroller for when he's older.)

  • Oh of course some things are great for some families and not others.  I wasn't trying to start anything with my above comment, so I apologize if anyone took it the wrong way!  I was just giving my opinion on the frames themselves, that's all.  If you get great use out of yours, that's wonderful!

We did have a travel system, but there are other strollers out there that aren't as bulky that will allow for an infant carrier to snap into it.  That's the route we will go with our next, but we still have our first stroller as a back up and that will take a Graco Snugride, which is our top choice of infant carseats.

I do agree with whoever mentioned your little one getting too heavy.  My son was a big boy, and there is no way I'd carry an infant seat with an infant well over 20 pounds.  Those things get SO heavy!

  • I am having an August baby and plan on using the snap and go this fall, while the baby is still small. I'll probably start using a normal stroller this Spring, once it warms up and he's bigger. I agree with a previous poster - it's just a $50-60 investment, and so convenient. Actually, I bet it's pretty easy to find a barely used snap and go frame on craigs list, at local consignment sales, or from a girlfriend. Most mothers only use the snap and go frames for 4-6 months.  I'm going with a Graco Snugride and Graco frame.
  • I don't plan on lugging my son around in the snug ride 32 until they are one. I know, my daughter was a big baby and I had a foster son until he was 18 months who was above average.  I'm saying I like the snug ride 32, as I can use it as a car seat for longer then the average infant car seat so I don't have to buy another at 7 months like before.  I don't plan on lugging him in and out for more then the first months, that is why the snap and go works for me.  Only $59, which is fine for how long it will last.  I have a jogger carriage too.  I have kids, I'm aware but thanks for the tip.

  • I was going to go with the Graco Snugride and the Snugrider 32. However I was given a brand new travel system over the weekend and I don't know if I can return it (bought from Target and it wasn't on the gift receipt). I really wanted to use the snap-n-go until we got the feel for what kind of stroller (if any right now) we were going to need. I do plan on babywearing as much as possible.
  • We're getting a Chicco Cortina Key Fit 30 travel system AND a Baby Trend Snap n' Go frame.  The Chicco car seat fits in it and I plan to keep the snap-n-go in my trunk (until baby outgrows it) and the Cortina stroller in my condo.
